An Inspired Chat with Jonatas Xavier of Vacaville

Jonatas Xavier shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Jonatas, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Absolutely. A great example happened with my business, Xavier Assembler. A few years ago, during a peak season, I had the opportunity to rapidly expand by hiring a larger team and taking on multiple projects at once. At first, it felt tempting to act fast to capture every opportunity. But I decided to pause, analyze the impact on quality, and make sure that our standards would never drop. Waiting allowed me to focus on training, organization, and building a reliable team. Today, I’m grateful I didn’t act too quickly because that decision protected the reputation of Xavier Assembler and allowed us to grow with excellence, keeping every client satisfied and every project completed with the quality that defines us.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jonatas Xavier, but most people just call me Xavier, and I am the founder of Xavier Assembler. I am originally from Brazil, and like many Brazilians, I’ve always enjoyed fixing and assembling things around the house. What started as helping a few friends assemble their furniture turned into a passion and, eventually, a business here in the United States. Today, Xavier Assembler is a family-run company that serves all of California and Reno, specializing in assembling gazebos, pergolas, sheds, playgrounds, and all types of furniture, both indoors and outdoors.

What makes our brand unique is the way we care for each client’s home as if it were our own. We pride ourselves on quality, efficiency, and trust, making sure every client feels their investment was worth it. We also connect with our diverse community by speaking English, Portuguese, and Spanish, which helps us serve families from different backgrounds. Right now, we are excited about the future—besides growing in the U.S., we are working on expanding to Portugal, bringing the same care, quality, and family-driven service to even more homes. For me, this brand is more than a job—it’s a way to create spaces where families can enjoy life together.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was simply a curious and creative kid who loved building things with my own hands. Growing up in Brazil, I would spend hours fixing, assembling, and creating solutions with whatever I had around me. I didn’t worry about titles, jobs, or expectations—I just followed my passion for making things work. That same kid still lives inside me today, and he is the reason I started Xavier Assembler. Turning that childhood curiosity into a business has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain and started using it as power when I moved to the United States and realized how challenging it would be to rebuild my life from scratch. Not speaking fluent English, being far from family, and facing the pressure to provide for my loved ones was not easy. At first, I carried that struggle silently, but over time I realized that my story and my challenges were actually my fuel. Every obstacle I faced became a reason to work harder, to learn, and to transform difficulties into motivation. That’s how Xavier Assembler was born—out of resilience, dedication, and the desire to turn my experience into something positive, creating spaces for families to enjoy and proving to myself that pain can become strength.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is the real me. What people see through Xavier Assembler is exactly who I am—a hardworking, family-oriented person who loves helping others create spaces they can enjoy. I don’t try to hide behind a perfect image or pretend to be someone I’m not. If you see me working on a pergola, assembling a gazebo, or talking with a client, that’s the same person my family and friends know at home. I believe that staying authentic is the key to building trust with people, and it’s also what keeps my work fulfilling.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was a man who worked hard, loved his family, and treated others with honesty and respect. I want them to remember that I built more than gazebos, pergolas, and sheds—I built trust and created spaces where families could make memories. Through Xavier Assembler, I hope my story inspires others to believe that no matter where you come from, with dedication and heart, you can create something meaningful. If people remember me as someone who left homes better than he found them and lives a little happier because of his work, that will be enough for me.
