Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Ingram.
Johanna’s grandfather and the namesake of the studio and her jewelry line was her biggest cheerleader in support of her first jewelry designs. He purchased many of her first creations for gifts.
Since then, Johanna graduated from the University of Arizona. Then, went on to work for her Jewelry Technician and Graduate Jeweler diploma from the renowned Revere Academy. From 2008 to 2012, she worked as a jeweler for a jewelry manufacturer which has been designated by both Sotheby’s and Christie’s as among the most collectible in the U.S. In addition to instructing classes at Harold studio, she does production and stone setting work for local independent jewelers as well as production and design collaboration for international brands.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I design, fabricate, carve and cast from idea into being. Many of the techniques I use are hundreds of years old. The process is therapeutic and fulfilling. My designs are inspired by the romantic beauty of the desert around me and from my travels. Although inspired by organic forms, shapes, and textures, through my process, I perfect and narrow down the organic to something more perfect, valuing craftsmanship and form.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success to me is enjoying what I do and creating something of value that other people need. That is the best feeling in the world. That being said, I think an essential characteristic of success is to always be looking for ways to improve and to never be satisfied with where you are in terms of skills or the products you make.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
