Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Such.
Sadie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for photography and video started as a kid when we would wait for the photos from my dad’s film camera to come in the mail and have actual slideshows on a projector on the wall! My siblings and I also started making goofy videos on the new handy-cam. In high school, I learned the practical tools of editing videos, photography and developing film in the dark room. I went on to Film School in Scottsdale, AZ and worked with studios in Downtown Phoenix.
I started my business at the end of 2009, mainly to fund a volunteer trip I was going on and realized how much I loved it! For the next 4 years, I traveled around the world half the year telling stories through photography and video with non-profit work, and the other half would be in Arizona working on weddings, non-profit videos and other projects.
From traveling and meeting different people all over the world, I continued to fall in love with storytelling.
My passion for both photography and filmmaking led to working with a film initiative in Hawaii, leading a team of storytellers to West Africa to photographing/filming weddings from Arizona, Hawaii, Colorado, Washington, Montana and Germany.
As my business focused on Weddings and Engagements, I wanted to continue with my love for filmmaking, which led to starting The Resolute Road in 2015, as a platform to share stories, create art and connect with others. We are currently in post-production of our first documentary film.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely been a challenging but fun road! As a creative, the part that comes naturally is the creative part – taking photos and making videos – but what you realize right away is that you also have to be the manager/business owner, and everything that comes along with that! I dove into business books, blogs, looking for advice as I felt a little lost in the beginning! I’m so thankful for the journey, as I found new passions and grew in ways I wasn’t expecting!
There are so many more great resources these days, that are encouraging #communityovercompetition, and photographer/entrepreneur meetups, to bring the community to what can be a very isolating job.
I’ve loved connecting with other creatives over the years and getting to cheer each other on and collaborate together. Community is definitely important!
Sadie Such Photography and Films and The Resolute Road – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sadie Such Photography and Films focusing on storytelling in a creative and authentic way, through both photography and video production. Through Weddings and Engagements, our goal is to capture who you are as a couple and create beautiful memories with natural light.
Through our short films for small businesses/non-profits, our goal is to help you share the heart of why you do what you do and craft the story to share the experience with your audience.
With years of experience, we are able to help you through the process that can otherwise be overwhelming. I personally love the relationships we build with our clients, as we are entering into very special moments in their life, whether a wedding or sharing the story of their business they have put so much work into. We are available for travel worldwide.
From weddings, small business promotional videos, music videos to lifestyle videos for bloggers or families, we specialize in an artistic, documentary style of storytelling.
For The Resolute Road, we are all about sharing stories, creating films to inspire others and connecting people around the world. We learn together by being vulnerable and sharing stories!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
With each session, I think of how I would want someone to care about the details and not just treat me as another number or client, but to get to know who they are and be able to tell their story more authentically. My hope is that each person would feel valued through the process of creating art.
Success in this field to me is also when the client or person feels something after watching the video or seeing the photo. Whether it’s smiling, laughing or crying at the story being told.
The Resolute Road success is when we can share stories that impact peoples lives for the positive, bring hope and inspire them to work hard, run after their dreams and remind them of their value.
