Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Stephens.
Pamela, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Some of my most favorite childhood moments were spent pouring over photo albums at my grandparents’ house in Scottsdale, Arizona. I would sit there, cross-legged with albums piled up in my lap, for hours until my legs would fall asleep. Each picture was carefully analyzed as I slowly flipped each page – everything from what people were wearing, to the details in the background of the photo, to the expressions captured on the subject’s face. Not a single detail was lost on me. With each photo, I found myself drowning in nostalgia and the desire for simpler times depicted in those photographs. My passion for capturing moments started right there on the floor in my grandparents’ house and it has blossomed into an 11-year photography business. I strive to freeze moments in time that can be cherished forever so that future grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have precious artifacts of what life was like before them.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
When my clients look through their photos, I want them to feel that I have accurately captured the connection they have with their loved ones and also their zest for life. I am inspired by my clients and their love stories. I strive to bring that connection to life through photographs.
The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Community over competition is my motto. Anytime you’re able to learn from other artists, take advantage of it. Learn, practice, share and repeat. By finding your place among a community of artists, you will never feel alone. If you feel passionate about your work, it will show through your art and you will attract clientele.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I share my work online via Instagram, my website and Facebook page.
