Today we’d like to introduce you to Thai Ngo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My photography journey began back in 2014 when I started out taking portraits. I loved capturing people, but my business completely shifted directions when a friend asked me to shoot photos for his Airbnb.
Stepping into that property changed everything. I fell in love with real estate media right away and realized how much I enjoyed bringing spaces to life through photo and video. Every house has its own unique character, and figuring out the best angles, lighting, and layout to highlight its true potential quickly became my passion.
What started as a single favor for a friend evolved into a full-scale commitment. By 2023, I made the jump to full-time real estate media, capturing high-quality photos and videos to help homes put their best foot forward.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Transitioning from portrait photography to full-time real estate media came with a steep learning curve. Mastering architectural lighting, wide-angle compositions, and efficient video editing demanded a completely different set of technical skills and workflow habits.
The biggest initial challenge was building a solid client base in a competitive market while shifting my business model. Moving away from consumer-focused portraiture meant building relationships directly with real estate agents, property managers, and homeowners. Learning to navigate tight delivery deadlines, weather dependencies, and managing the day-to-day business side of full-time media operations took real grit and adaptability, but every obstacle helped refine my process and push the business forward.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe luck, or what I like to call opportunity meeting preparation, played a huge role at a pivotal moment in my business.
Good luck came in the form of a simple request: a friend asking me to shoot photos for his Airbnb. At the time, I was strictly doing portrait photography, so taking on that project was completely unexpected. That single Airbnb shoot opened my eyes to a niche I fell in love with, completely changing the trajectory of my career and pushing me to go full-time into real estate media.
On the flip side, “bad luck” or unexpected obstacles, like navigating tough market shifts, steep learning curves with architectural media, or client scheduling hurdles, always ended up being blessings in disguise. They forced us at Tygo Studio to refine our technical skills, streamline our systems, and build much stronger relationships with local agents, property managers, and homeowners.
Ultimately, luck handed me the initial spark, but hard work, adaptability, and continuous learning allowed us to turn that lucky opportunity into a thriving business.
