Rising Stars: Meet Jah Harris of Phoenix / Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jah Harris.

Hi Jah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My peer group was the catalyst for everything that I’ve involved myself in professionally. Being a creative never had a starting point, it’s what I’ve always been, however, I don’t know if I would have found it as easily and as early as I did without my friend group. They made music and I got behind the mic, they made skits and I jumped in front of the camera. My HS friends had influence and following and an image, I brought all of that with me into adulthood and made my own path with the charisma I gained from making that choice.

That didn’t make my choice easy, it made it look natural to others but real trailblazers know the pain and struggle. Arizona forced me to take everything St. Louis taught me and sharpen it until I could hunt with it. That’s my KILLAMAN music persona.

Halfway through my 14 years here in AZ I had found myself back in front of the camera lens again. I wasn’t a character in comedy skits though, I was a formal menswear model on a runway. Modeling was something that I never saw coming, nor did I foresee it leading me into private security and ultimately back to acting.

I think that is a primary reason as to why I feel comfortable taking risks by trying new things because they feel intrinsic to the experiences of my childhood and young adulthood. That allows me to look back on the trail I’ve blazed and see a clear origin and the depth of my journey.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest obstacle was feeling the pressure of corporate employment, formal education and trade certification, all things that I have lacked to this day. I wasn’t raised with the knowledge to survive outside of these constraints.

Working for yourself is not easier, it’s different; and it’s a choice you have to make if you don’t find yourself compatible with the typical pipelines to success.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a lyrical rap artist and an independent label owner.
I am a formal and urban menswear model and a runway coach/ talent agent.
I am an actor with experience as a casting manager.
I am a private security contractor and a security coalition liaison.

Unbeknownst to most, I am a creative writer with both cinematic and episodic material in almost any genre including romantic drama and young children’s.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Music visuals are the next major project.

As far as audio, KILLAMAN Tape is dropping before this interview.

Also I have to take the time to show appreciation for my peer group, even now I surround myself with people who influence me and critique me and motivate me to achieve my purpose and I love them for that.
