Rising Stars: Meet Mauriah Hilton of Phoenix / Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mauriah Hilton.

Hi Mauriah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing nails just as hobby while bored in college in 2019, it was something fun to do but I never intended it to become my career. COVID happened and kind of turned my world around. I realized that when you have a trade it can never be taken away from you. I started to take nails more seriously and enrolled in nail school. During the pandemic I just focused on getting licensed and perfecting my craft. I started to sell press on nails on Etsy until I could legally start taking clients and it’s truly been a blast. I moved from Illinois to Arizona in 2022 which felt like starting my business completely over since I had to start building my clientele all over again. It’s had its ups and downs but I’ve enjoyed every second, I appreciate every face that graces my chair.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I started home based both in Illinois and Arizona and some people have reservations about this no matter how professional the space itself is. When I moved to Arizona I had to rebuild clientele then I got pregnant and it shifted my responsibilities a bit I had to lock in to my 9-5 so it felt like I put my own business on the back burner. I decided a few months ago that I was tired of being stagnant and ready to get back to my dream. I moved into a nail suite with only a handful of my regulars and business has flourished since.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed nail technician. I really like to focus on your natural nail health. My favorite part of my job is definitely nail art, it keeps it fun and interesting. Overall I think my personality is what separates me from others, it’s not just about the skill but the entire experience from the moment the client books.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Making other people happy makes me happy. I love knowing I brightened someone’s day in any way that I can. I like making people feel good about themselves and it’s often overlooked how having nice nails positively affects the brain.
