Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Maciag.
Dana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2018 it was my daughter’s 10th birthday. I knew I wanted to make it extra special being the over the top party mom that I am. I knew she was going to have a sleepover with 9 of her closest friends. So I started googling ideas and these teepee tents kept popping up. I looked for a local company and there were none in AZ, let alone in any nearby states at the time. So I had help crafting the teepees, bought some air mattresses, decor pillows and had the very first Sleepy Teepee Sleepover. From there it exploded into a full blown business and we are still going 8 years later.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You would think when the pandemic hit it would have been a rough go, but oddly it was the best two years of business. It was the aftermath that has been a rough one to navigate. The pandemic made everyone a small business owner. Which is great, but also hurt the market then you add the economy and things have been up and down since. We have continued to stay and get through it all, celebrating our wins small or big!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our company is known for the attention to detail. We also hand make some of our decor items to keep them hard to copy and keep them unique to just us. I am a former muralist (my business before AZ Sleepy Teepee), and I’ve always had an artsy/creative side. So crafting, painting, and being creative in my business brings me happiness and I know it’s something unique to our company.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Scottsdale is a great city. I was born and raised here and now am raising my children here as well.
