Life & Work with Dalia Barrios of Phoenix / Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalia Barrios.

Hi Dalia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been in the fitness world for over 15 years, which is honestly crazy to say out loud! I was born in Mexico, grew up in Arizona, and this career has taken me from AZ to teaching in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and now somehow full circle back home.

For me, fitness has always been about SO much more than the workout. It’s the music, the energy, the people, and that feeling of walking into a room and knowing you belong. I’m especially passionate about creating that space for my Latin community. A place where we can hear our music LOUD, celebrate our culture, take up space, move our bodies, and just be exactly who we are.

Now, I’m so excited to be an indoor cycling instructor at NYX Cycle + Fitness, where I get to bring all of that energy into the room every week. It feels really special to be back home in Arizona, doing what I love and continuing to build the kind of community I’ve always dreamed of creating here.

I always knew I’d eventually make my way back to Arizona, and getting to bring everything I’ve learned over the years back home feels like such a full-circle moment. I just want to keep doing what I love, bringing people together, and creating spaces filled with mucha energía, mucho perreo + a whole lot of corazón.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not lol. There have been A LOT of highs, lows, pivots, starting over, and plenty of “okay girl… what are we doing?!” moments along the way.

I’ve moved to new cities, built communities from the ground up, had doors close that I thought were meant for me, and had to learn when it was time to walk away from something that no longer felt aligned, even when it was scary to do so.

I’ve also learned that the path doesn’t always have to make sense while you’re in it. Sometimes you just have to trust the pivot, bet on yourself, and keep it moving. Through every version of my career, the one thing that has stayed the same is how much I LOOOVE this work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m really proud of the communities I’ve built for Latinos within fitness. Creating spaces where our music, our culture, our language, and our energy are celebrated has become such a huge part of my purpose. Representation matters to me, and there’s nothing better than looking around a packed room and seeing people completely light up because they feel at home.

I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely LOVE people. I’m not interested in creating the “perfect” fitness experience. I want it to feel REAL. A little loud, a little sweaty, maybe a little chaotic lol, but full of corazón. I want you to leave feeling stronger, happier, more confident, and hopefully already thinking about when you can come back.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Arizona is that it feels like home. I grew up here, so coming back after living and teaching in other cities has made me appreciate it in a completely different way. I love how much it’s growing, how much culture and diversity we have here, and especially how strong the Latin community is. There’s so much energy here right now, and it’s been really exciting getting to be part of that growth and build community again in the place that raised me.

More dancing, PLEASE! I need more places where you can walk in, hear some reggaeton, salsa, bachata, or cumbias, and immediately know you’re about to have a GOOD night. Give me good music, good energy, and a dance floor and I’m happy!
