Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Riggio.
Hi Tricia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been doing hair for the last 22 years. For the last six years, I have ran and owned my own micro Salon as well as starting to grow my Salon team. I am currently in the process of building a new Salon with the hopes of continuing to grow my team as well as starting my new apprenticeship program called the TRH Academy, where apprentices can get their education and experience to get ready for the cosmetology state board exams, through my Salon and my mentorship. Throughout my career, I have always helped mentor new stylists that have entered the workforce from cosmetology school and have found a passion of teaching and getting them ready to build their clientele and be successful behind the chair with confidence and knowledge to back up their business. I am excited to continue to grow my business in the aspect by creating this academy and maybe someday it will turn into a private cosmetology school a luxury learning experience with one-on-one learning and on the job training that is extremely valuable and necessary for the future of hairstylist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, my experience in the hair industry has been very smooth, but not to say that there aren’t any hardships that come along the way. I tend to take experiences that are not desirable and learn from them, and not to dwell on them. During the pandemic, the Salon that I was working at was shut down for almost 8 weeks. I had to navigate that period of how I could continue to make money from home doing what I love most and that’s helping women look and feel their best. I offered one on one consultations and styling zoom calls as well as prepared custom color packages for my clients that they would pick up from me so that they could have their roots done with their custom color with the Salon product that we use so they were ready for their business Zoom calls. I always try to look at the bright side of things and find the joy and the goodness in all things which helps me to move forward and not dwell on hard times.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my 22 years of being a hairstylist, I have found the most of my passion in blonding techniques as well as hair extensions. I thoroughly enjoy the transformations and helping women feel confident when they look in the mirror. Not only do I get to help them feel good with how they look, but I make sure that my time spent with each guest in my chair is going to be the best part of their week their month or even their year. My talent behind the chair exceeds beyond the skill, but in reaching the hearts and the souls of those who get to sit in my chair and creating relationships and trust within my clients that goes beyond just a client relationship. I find joy in the smiles and the conversations that I get to have in my salon every day. In addition to the relationships I get to build, I am extremely passionate about education. In building my Salon team, I have provided jobs to assistance and helps them grow their business behind the chair, and I have found the most joy in watching them flourish and become the stylists that they are and continue to grow.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe what helps me be successful is the feeling that people get when they come into my salon. Like I said before it’s not just about the hair. It’s about the feeling they get when they come in. They are welcomed. They are loved. They are celebrated. They are heard and they are seen in addition to getting a great hair service. One of my favorite things is having clients stop by when they’re in the neighborhood and coming in, making himself a drink, grabbing a snack and visiting with us for a few minutes before they have to move on with their day. To me that is success in creating joy in those that I serve.
