Meet Ashley Howell of Libertas Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Howell.

Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Alaska knowing very little about entrepreneurship or what it meant to work for yourself. My dad’s passion was building homes. He built a few for our family growing up so I was exposed to that from an early age but I never thought about real estate as a career option for myself. About a decade ago, I was driving semi-trucks and building dirt roads, looking for books I could listen to while I worked to pass the time.

That’s when I stumbled upon Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad, and it changed my life.

It changed the way I thought. It changed the way I looked at life. Most importantly, it introduced me to a whole new way of thinking about creating the life I wanted through entrepreneurship and real estate investing.

After that, I started reading every real estate book I could get my hands on. I decided I was going to change my life through real estate—and eventually, I wanted to help other people do the same.

I saved money, paid off all my debt, and made the move to Arizona to pursue that dream. Seven years ago, I got my real estate license here and never looked back.

Today, I get to wake up every day and help people achieve their real estate goals. I work with clients on all aspects of real estate, but my true passion is helping people use real estate as a tool to build wealth and create financial opportunities for themselves.

What started as a book I listened to while driving a semi-truck ultimately changed the direction of my life. Now, I get to help others change theirs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
All those real estate reality shows on TV did us dirty! They made this career look so easy. The reality is, it’s far from easy—but I can promise you, it’s so worth it.

When you’re first getting started, you really have no idea what you’re doing. You have to learn how the process works, figure out how to build a business, and learn how to guide people through some of the best and worst moments of their lives.

Yes, you can work when you want, but if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. There’s no guaranteed paycheck, so you have to be disciplined and learn to treat this like a full-time job—because it is.

When I moved to Arizona, I didn’t know anyone. One of the hardest parts was figuring out how to meet people, market myself, and find clients. You spend a lot of time working without any guarantee that you’ll get paid for the time and effort you’re putting in.

I had to learn how to handle rejection. You’ll hear “no” a lot—sometimes after investing a significant amount of time and effort.

You’ll miss time with family. You’ll miss vacations and holidays. Clients will choose someone else to work with, even after you’ve done everything you can to earn their business.

People closest to you will question your decisions. And, at times, you’ll question them yourself.

That’s part of the journey. You have to learn how to keep showing up, keep moving forward, and trust the work you’re putting in—even when you don’t see the results right away.

It can be challenging, especially in the beginning. But if you’re willing to put in the work, stay disciplined, and keep learning, it can become one of the most rewarding careers you’ll ever have.

As you know, we’re big fans of Libertas Real Estate. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I hang my license at a Brokerage called Libertas Real Estate, the best group of Realtors and Investors in the valley! I help people with regular residential transactions when they want to buy or sell but I also help a lot of Investors make money. My passion for this business is the investment side. My goal is to help people understand how real estate can be used to build wealth.

What sets me aside from other agents is that I focus on creative ways to get deals done. I know traditional real estate in and out but I’m also well versed in creative finance, fix and flips, purchasing/selling rental properties, wholesaling, multifamily, development, and owner financing. Whether that means purchasing their first investment property, building a rental portfolio, finding an opportunity to renovate and resell, buying land, or simply understanding what opportunities are available, I want to help people see the possibilities.

I believe real estate can be a powerful tool for creating financial opportunities, but there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is to understand what each client wants to accomplish and help them develop a strategy that makes sense for their situation.

I also want people to know that you don’t have to be wealthy or have everything figured out to get started. I certainly didn’t. I started with a book, a goal, and a willingness to learn. Now, I get to help other people navigate that same journey.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe the most important quality to my success has been integrity. I’ve always done what is right for my clients, even when it wasn’t necessarily what was best for me.

I genuinely love people, and I care about the people I work with. I want them to know that I’m going to be honest with them, look out for their best interests, and give them the advice I would give to someone I love. Sometimes that means making a decision that costs me time, money, or even a transaction, but I would rather do the right thing than make a sale.

At the end of the day, I want to be able to look back at every transaction and know that I did everything I could to take care of my clients and treat them the way I would want to be treated. I believe that doing business with honesty, integrity, and genuine care for people is what creates lasting relationships and long-term success.
