Today we’d like to introduce you to World Mappers.
Hi World, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are Simone & Marco, two Italian guys who turned a shared passion for exploring the world into a life project. What started as a simple journey together quickly became something much bigger when, during one of our first trips, a spontaneous photo sparked a challenge: to capture a #Face2Face moment in every city and corner of the world we visit.
That idea became the foundation of “World Mappers” — a way of documenting not just places, but experiences, connections, and emotions across cultures.
As we traveled, we began sharing more than photos. We created a travel blog designed as a practical companion for other travelers. It includes LGBT-friendly destination guides, city tips, food inspiration, hotel recommendations, and travel advice gathered directly from our experiences. Everything is structured to help people explore the world in an authentic and informed way, with content we’ve personally lived and tested.
Alongside our blog, we also work professionally on Instagram with Tourism Boards, hotels, tourism service providers, and lifestyle brands. Through collaborations and content creation, we help destinations and companies tell their stories in an authentic and engaging way, connecting them with a global and travel-loving audience.
Today, “World Mappers” is both a creative project and a professional platform — combining storytelling, photography, and partnerships to inspire people to explore the world with curiosity, openness, and purpose.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
the journey has been rewarding, but definitely not a smooth road.
One of the first challenges was simply turning a passion project into something structured and consistent. When we started, everything was spontaneous: traveling, taking photos, sharing moments. But building “World Mappers” into a recognizable platform meant learning how to be consistent with content, develop a visual identity, and create value beyond personal memories.
Another big challenge was balancing creativity with the professional side of the project. Working with Tourism Boards, hotels, and brands through Instagram is exciting, but it also comes with deadlines, expectations, and the need to adapt our storytelling while staying authentic to who we are. Finding that balance between creative freedom and professional collaborations took time.
We also had to learn everything along the way — from content strategy and photography techniques to communication, pitching, and managing partnerships. There was no clear roadmap at the beginning, so a lot of trial and error was involved.
On top of that, as a gay couple traveling and sharing our life publicly, we’ve also faced additional challenges. In some places and situations, we’ve had to deal with homophobia, stereotypes, or subtle forms of discrimination. It’s something that has made parts of the journey more difficult and, at times, emotionally heavy. At the same time, it has strengthened our purpose: to travel openly, share our story honestly, and help create more visibility and representation for the LGBTQ+ community through what we do.
But all of these struggles have shaped us. They’ve pushed us to be more resilient, more intentional, and more committed to building something meaningful rather than just sharing travel moments.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are Simone & Marco, the creators behind World Mappers — a travel storytelling project focused on producing authentic content for destinations, hotels, Tourism Boards, and travel brands, mainly through Instagram and our blog.
We specialize in visual storytelling and destination-focused content, combining travel experiences with curated guides and LGBT-friendly recommendations.
We’re known for our #Face2Face concept, a signature visual series we shoot in every destination we visit, and for a consistent, experience-driven storytelling style.
What we’re most proud of is turning a personal passion into a professional platform that now collaborates internationally while staying true to our identity.
What sets us apart is the mix of being a couple creating together, our strong visual identity, and a focus on authentic, inclusive travel storytelling rather than purely promotional content.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What we like most about Italy is the richness and variety of experiences in such a relatively small country — from landscapes that change completely within a few hours, to the depth of culture, history, food, and local traditions. There’s also a strong sense of identity and everyday beauty in simple things, which constantly inspires our way of seeing and telling stories.
What we like least is that, at times, there can be a lack of openness to change and innovation, especially in some professional and social environments. For us as creators, this can sometimes translate into slower opportunities or less support for new, non-traditional paths — although this is gradually improving.
