Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaty Edwards.
Hi Jaty, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Irving, Texas. My mom’s cousins played country music and we would go watch them when I was young. That and 90’s country music inspired my desire to play guitar and sing. My grandma (Dranny) put me in guitar lessons at 4 years old. When I was a Junior in High School my family moved to Columbus, Ohio. After finishing high school I graduated from The Ohio State University. From there I moved with a friend to Scottsdale, Arizona. Met my wife and got married and started playin music in Phoenix in 2015. Since then I’ve built the band, Jaty & the Black Stallions, played shows all over Arizona, and turned playing country music at bars, events, rodeos, weddings, private parties, into a full time business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think any road to something successful is ever smooth. The struggles are just as you could imagine…trying to get your name out there, get into venues to play at, connect with local musicians and venues in order to get in to the scene. I started by taking any gig that would have me for whatever kind of money. Then built on it from there
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I play acoustic guitar and sing. Primarily country music. Anything from solo in a bar in town to full band at any of the honky tonks around the valley. We play local festivals and corporate events. Mixing in a few weddings and private parties throughout the year.
The band specifically is known for its high energy rock-country shows.
Im proud of the footprint I’ve created with in the country music scene in Arizona. I grew up in Texas on country music and cowboys, so to be in a place that has a very similar culture means a lot to me
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think luck comes in to play like with everything. It’s about how you take advantage of that “luck”. Moving into the Phoenix area and meeting my wife was all lucky. I stumbled upon the country music scene that was here and then realized the opportunity it had to offer.
