Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Dampt.
Hi Joseph, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was about 10 years old I got my first guitar at a yard sale for $75. It did not play past the 12th fret and in retrospect was a pretty terrible guitar to start out with, But it worked for me and I quickly grew to love guitar centric music especially the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and The Beach Boys. I got my first electric guitar about a year later, a starter Johnson electric guitar. About a year later I bought 1970s Ibanez guitar and did not like it so I decided to try to sell it. When I sold it for more than I bought it for a light bulb went off in my head and I using buying and selling as a way to try different equipment. Over the years this morphed into a business and a passion for vintage instruments. today Joe’s vintage guitars buys and sells hundreds of instruments per year.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While there have been some struggles along the way with shipping spiteful competitors and mistakes associated with the learning curve of the vintage Guitar World, the road has actually been quite smooth. It’s a lot easier when you are working in a field that you really enjoy.
As you know, we’re big fans of Joe’s Vintage Guitars, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Joe’s Vintage Guitars is known for a very personal experience in guitar appraisals and the purchasing of high end vintage guitars. We focus on the stories behind the guitars, not just the guitars. What sets our store apart from other vintage guitar shops is our passion for the history and willingness to go the extra mile and even pay more for guitars that have cool stories interesting modifications or historical importance.
What matters most to you?
What matters the most to me is highlighting instruments that are emblematic of certain periods in American history. Sometimes this even means focusing on a guitar that may not be the most profitable. This is the most important to me because I truly believe that every era of American history has its own unique charm and appeal And I want that to be shared and cherished for decades to come.
