Jess Gladhart shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jess, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that’s bringing me joy lately is my daughter! I recently had a baby and she is the absolute light of my life
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi my name is Jess! I am a baker for my home micro bakery Totally Baked Bakery! I recently had a baby girl and while on maternity leave I got back into baking and wanted to share with the world! I have always loved to bake ever since I was little, and over the years I’ve gotten the opportunity to learn and grow in my favorite recipes and I am so excited to be able to do what I love and still be able to spend time with my little one!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say my mom! She has always been the person who encouraged me to do my best and follow my dreams she was always the most excited to try my baked goods and always gave the BEST reactions! I loved baking for my mom growing and now I’m even more excited to bake for everyone new!
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds around my life were always the negative thoughts of “I can’t do this” and “you’re not good enough” I’m sure everyone struggles with that but I’ve tried really hard to look at my passions with more confidence and tell myself that “no one does it like me” and “I may not be for everyone but I am for someone” and that’s really changed my whole outlook on not only my businesses but life as well.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I would have to say yes because I value trying to be as authentic as possible. I never want to hide behind this facade that life isn’t what it appears online and in public. There are too many people out there that try to be something they’re not and I don’t ever want to do that. However I try to keep a more private home life. But I will always be myself no matter what!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I feel like this might be cheesy, but I really do believe everything happens for a reason. Everything that has happened in the past has lead to everything happening now and that’s beautiful. If I never went to school or met the people I have I might not be able to be this version of myself! My life hasn’t always been a walk in the park, as is for anyone but I am so grateful for all the lessons I’ve been able to learn and grow from to become the woman I am today!
