Laprè’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Laprè. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Laprè, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Music has always been my main calling, but throughout the journey, I’ve realized there are these smaller callings that appear along the way & each one helps me grow and supports that larger purpose. Lately, I have felt called to step into the spotlight more as a female producer and truly showcase what I can do. For me, production goes far beyond just piecing loops together. It’s about structuring beats from the ground up and shaping a sound that feels intentional and alive. I’m also learning to share my creative process more openly, even when it doesn’t look like everyone else’s. There’s beauty in creating your own lane, and I’m finally leaning into that with confidence.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
D’ona “Laprè” Jackson, born in Maywood, Illinois, and raised in Arizona, is a singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer whose sound blends soulful melodies with grounded storytelling. With a voice that embodies both grit and grace, Laprè creates music that reflects love, growth, and the truths found in lived experiences.

She made her debut with the EP “Nonstop” in 2018 and soon showcased her versatility as both an artist and producer with “The Silver Lining” in 2020, crafting original beats that demonstrated her growing command of sound production. In 2021, Laprè expanded her reach with the rap album “Check Me Out”, released through JC3 Media Publishing, which led to multiple placements on TV networks such as BET+, HBO Max, and Peacock.

From 2022 to 2023, Laprè continued to evolve by experimenting across genres and collaborating widely. This creative momentum culminated in *Route 24*, a breakout project featuring fan favorites like “Roll One,” “Too Deep,” “Pressure,” and “Like You.” The album marked a defining moment in her artistry, earning her recognition within the Phoenix music scene and beyond. This included music videos, live performances, and additional placements on BET’s “Atlanta Impact” in 2024.

Now in 2025, Laprè continues to carve new paths as a musician and vocalist with Buttafly Effect Band, while also securing new placements on the hit series “Poker Face”, starring Natasha Lyonne on Peacock, and “Caught in the Act: Unfaithful”, hosted by Tami Roman on MTV. As a true light and messenger, Laprè represents an authentic voice for her generation, unafraid to merge vulnerability with vision and allowing her music to express what words often fail to convey.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger, I truly believed I wasn’t good enough to be where I am today. I couldn’t see myself finding success in the music industry or imagine that my voice would one day reach people around the world. To now hear my vocals on TV, to know I’ve touched souls, helped write meaningful songs for other artists, and produced work I’m proud of, those are things little me never thought possible. I no longer hold that doubt. Today, I know I’m destined to make my mark in this industry, whether that’s through singing, rapping, songwriting, or producing. There are so many ways to contribute to the bigger picture, and I embrace them all. My purpose is to keep creating, keep evolving, and continue making music that moves people.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. Since my debut in 2018, there have been several moments where I’ve felt the need to step back from social media, from the constant expectations, and from the pressure that comes with being an artist today. Those breaks have always been my way of recharging, and every comeback has made me stronger.

But 2021 was definitely one of the darkest points in my career. I remember wiping everything from my social media and going completely ghost for a while. At the time, it felt like one of those “should I just give up?” moments. Looking back, I realize that stepping away wasn’t a sign of failure; it was a necessary reset.

Now, I’m no longer afraid to share those vulnerable moments with my supporters or to be transparent about my need for space. Every time I’ve come back, I’ve been met with tremendous love and support, which reminds me that authenticity and balance matter just as much as the music itself.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is my music — creating it, having the right tools to make it, and maintaining the peace and focus I need to bring it to life. Everything I do is really centered around expressing myself through my art.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone is one of resilience — that I never gave up on myself or my music, even when the odds were stacked against me. That I broke generational curses through healing and following my dreams, showing my kids that you can truly achieve anything you put your mind to. I want them to say I stepped into this industry authentically, gave my whole heart, and left a mark like a true legend.
