Exploring Life & Business with Polen “Pauline” On of ON SKIN LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Polen “Pauline” On.

Hi Polen “Pauline”, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I first moved to Arizona, I was struck not only by its beauty but also by its unforgiving desert climate. Within months, my skin began to change — dry, sensitive, pigmentation and visibly aging faster than I had ever experienced before. That moment of self-awareness sparked what would become a profound personal and professional transformation.
Curious to understand what was happening beneath the surface, I began visiting aestheticians and researching the science of skin health. The more I learned, the clearer it became that skincare wasn’t just about appearance — it was about understanding the body as an integrated system. That realization led me to enroll in a natural aesthetics program and become a licensed aesthetician, marking the beginning of my entrepreneurial path.
Founding OnSkin was not only about launching a business — it was about sharing a discovery. I wanted others to experience what I had found: that skin health reflects the harmony between science, nutrition, energy, and emotional well-being. Over the years, I have invested deeply in education to ensure that OnSkin remains grounded in evidence-based, holistic care.
I became certified in Oncology Aesthetics, learning how to support those navigating the physical and emotional challenges of cancer treatments. I expanded into energy medicine, studying Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM), PEMF therapy, and other modalities that promote healing from within. Courses in nutrition ayurveda and qigong enriched my understanding of how movement, mindfulness, and nourishment influence the skin and overall vitality. Completing my Health and Wellness Coaching certification tied it all together, giving me a framework to help others create balance in their bodies, minds, and lives.
At the heart of OnSkin’s philosophy is a simple truth: skin is a reflection of the whole person. Every client who walks through my door is unique — and my role is to listen, educate, and co-create a plan that honors their individual journey. The science of skincare may have drawn me in, but it’s the human connection that keeps me inspired every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most journeys worth taking, mine hasn’t been without its challenges. When I first started, I quickly realized that transforming a personal passion into a sustainable business required more than technical skill — it demanded resilience, patience, and faith in the process.
Starting over in a new field later in life meant retraining my mind as much as my hands. I had come from a structured, corporate environment, and stepping into the intimate world of skincare felt both exhilarating and uncertain. Every client’s skin told a story — and I had to learn to listen not just with my eyes, but with compassion and intuition.
One of the biggest challenges came during the COVID-19 shutdown, when I had to close my practice and pause in-person services. Those weeks were filled with uncertainty, both for my business and my clients’ well-being. Fortunately, Arizona allowed personal-care businesses to reopen after about two months, but during that downtime, I focused on staying connected — offering product drop-offs, mail deliveries, and pick-ups so clients could maintain their wellness routines at home. That experience deepened my understanding of what it means to serve — to show up for others, even in unconventional ways.
Another ongoing challenge has been navigating the rapid changes in social media, where trends often overshadow science. As a solo practitioner, it’s easy to feel the pressure to “keep up,” but I’ve learned that my responsibility is to stay grounded in truth, not hype. Misinformation spreads quickly, and my commitment is to continually educate myself and my clients through evidence-based knowledge, helping them understand what truly benefits their skin and overall health.
Balancing business operations, client care, and ongoing education hasn’t been easy — but each struggle has refined my purpose and reaffirmed why I started OnSkin: to offer something genuine, rooted in both empathy and evidence.
What I’ve learned along the way is that growth rarely happens in comfort. The same way skin heals through renewal, entrepreneurs grow through challenges. And while the road hasn’t been smooth, it’s been deeply rewarding — every obstacle has strengthened my ability to serve, connect, and inspire others to see wellness as an ongoing, evolving journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about ON SKIN LLC?
OnSkin was born from a deep curiosity about how science, nature, and the human body work together to create healthy, radiant skin. At its core, my practice is about transformation — not just of the skin’s surface, but of the way people understand and care for themselves.
What truly sets OnSkin apart is the level of customization and integrity behind every treatment and product I offer. Each session begins with a detailed conversation — not just about products, but about lifestyle, health, and personal goals. From there, I create a treatment plan tailored to each client’s needs, while setting realistic expectations based on factors like skin sensitivity, health conditions, skin barrier strength and lifestyle.
I also devote significant time to researching the products I carry. Every item used or recommended in my practice is science-backed, chosen for its proven efficacy, value, and sustainability. Whenever possible, I source from local Arizona-based manufacturers that share my commitment to clean formulation — no parabens, harsh chemicals, or toxic ingredients. Each product must meet a high standard of performance and integrity before it becomes part of my toolkit.
My background in finance gives me a structured, analytical approach to evaluating products and results, while my training in aesthetics, oncology skincare, energy medicine, nutrition, and wellness coaching allows me to take a truly holistic view. Every decision — from product selection to treatment design — is guided by both science and empathy.
I am most proud that OnSkin has become a space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. Beyond visible results, I want every client to leave with a deeper understanding of how their lifestyle, emotions, and health reflect on their skin. To focus on progress, not perfection.
At OnSkin, beauty isn’t just skin deep — it’s a reflection of balance, mindfulness, and care for the self and the world around us. My website www.onskin.life details the Services and Products offered.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that a mentor doesn’t always have to come from the same field. In skincare, we often look to other aestheticians for guidance, but I’ve found that inspiration and wisdom can come from anyone who shares a spirit of learning, compassion, and service.
I’m fortunate to be located within the holistic therapy wing of Desert Sage Herbs, surrounded by practitioners who each bring unique expertise — from herbalism and neuromuscular therapy to reflexology, and medical massage. Being part of this collaborative environment has been one of my greatest blessings. The owner of Desert Sage Herbs, who started both the herbal store and therapy rooms, has also been a quiet mentor through her example of perseverance and authenticity.
Networking can also happen in unexpected ways. Many suppliers and product companies offer continuing education courses where professionals come together to share knowledge. These opportunities used to be in person, which made it easier to build relationships, though now they are often held as webinars.
I have to say — my clients have been some of my greatest teachers. Each person comes from a different background, culture, and life experience, and through listening to them, I’ve grown more empathetic and emotionally aware. In many ways, I’ve evolved more at OnSkin — through these relationships — than I ever did in my corporate life.
My best advice for anyone seeking mentorship is this: stay curious, stay open, and stay connected. Wisdom often appears where you least expect it, and growth comes when you listen — not just to experts, but to everyone around you.
