Alexandria Carroll shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Alexandria, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building is my fashion empire. It started during Covid, when I began making T-shirts because I wanted something cooler and more unique. Once I noticed that everyone else was making T-shirts too, I decided to take it further—I taught myself how to sew by watching videos and started creating pieces that I personally loved to wear. From there, my designs evolved from colorful, funky clothes to rave-inspired looks, and now into everyday styles that are still bold, off-the-wall, and uniquely mine. This journey has been completely self-made, and I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished on my own
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the owner and creator of The Modern Alien — your go-to destination for handmade western clothing with a funky twist and a sustainable soul.
Based in Holbrook, Arizona, we create one-of-a-kind clothing using upcycled and reworked vintage fabrics like old bedsheets, curtains, and thrift store gems. Every piece is eco-friendly, handcrafted, and made to stand out with bold prints, unexpected combos, and a whole lot of cowgirl energy.
This isn’t your average boutique — we’re a slow fashion brand for space cowgirls, desert dreamers, and anyone who likes their outfits as loud and unique as their personality. Our pieces are a mash-up of funky cowgirl style, western-inspired fashion, and creative reuse — designed to help you express yourself and reduce waste at the same time.
Whether you’re chasing sunsets, hitting a honky-tonk, or just vibin’ in your boots and fringe, we’ve got the sustainable fashion to match your wild spirit.
So go on, be weird. Be bold. Be a Modern Alien.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
When I had to rely on my own work ethic to be able to survive life
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There is always times where you wanna give up, but that’s where your test of the most that are really push through the struggles as it’s an every day thing
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
The people I have in my circle. They’re the ones who keep me going.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
That it was handed too me
