Sheila Leedy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Sheila, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Music! I have been to a couple concerts in the recent months and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Listening to live music well performed transports me to a magical place. It’s lovely just let go of those things going on in day-to-day life and be fully immersed in the moment.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a longtime Spiritualist and medium. Discovery and development are what I had intended all those years ago when I set out on my spiritual path. Becoming a medium just sort of happened. The same is true for becoming a speaker and teacher of spiritual development. A natural progression I guess you could say. Being a medium and serving the spirit world is not just what I do, it is who am as a person. It is as much a part of me as my quirky sense of humor! I have built a wonderful relationship with my spirit friends and teachers. Collectively, the main goal is to help people.; to bring comfort and healing to my clients and also to the spirit people that communicate. It is an honor and a blessing to be able to be that bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I went to a Spiritualist meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland while on a trip to the UK in 1982. I was nineteen years old and knew very little about the psychic and mediumistic events that I had been experiencing as a child and teenager. The meeting in Edinburgh opened my eyes to a new way of thinking in a very big way. The door was flung open so to speak and I ran through it, never looking back.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, absolutely. In 2001 I was in the UK once again on an extended trip. I was at another Spiritualist meeting, this time in Aberdeen, Scotland. I received a spirit ‘message’ from the medium who was taking the service and working platform that morning. The message started out just fine and then took some odd turn and soon the medium was talking about people who think they are mediums but aren’t really, etc. It seemed to me that the medium was telling me that I wasn’t a medium. Needless to say, I was floored; absolutely gutted. I left the meeting and stopped talking to my spirit guides, didn’t attend any groups or gatherings. It was horrible. I vowed to quit. Fortunately, this bleak outlook only lasted about two weeks. I received good advice and encouragement from my personal friends there in Scotland. I picked myself up, dusted myself off and got back on my horse.
I did learn a valuable lesson however from this experience. As a medium and a spiritual teacher, one must take care in what one tells a client or student. A lot of damage can be done if one does not take care and use good judgement.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yeah, pretty much! I will say though that over the years I have learned to be more confident about who I am in public. Early on, I almost never told anyone that I just met that I am a medium. Nowadays, I am less reticent about revealing that little aspect of myself. I don’t go running up to people and shouting about it though.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
My brain freezes and I do my best imitation of a deer in the headlights! I have felt a little out of my depth recently regarding a couple of new endeavors that I am taking on. That’s ok though. I feel like going beyond the comfort zone is how one stretches and grows.
