Conversations with Ashley Couture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Couture.

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Before I had kids I was a 1st grade teacher in Phoenix, AZ. After I had my first daughter I was able to stay home with her and added 3 more kiddos to the bunch! I began making their birthday cakes each year as a self-taught baker which led to the opening of Couture Cakes! I now create not only birthday cakes but any event cake, including weddings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles for me consist of each theme and type of cake having a different technique needed to create quality work. Not every cake is the same and it requires much practice and effort to accurately bring a specific design or idea to life. Also, the Arizona heat and buttercream don’t get along….. that’s definitely a struggle!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a self-taught cake artist that specializes in birthday cakes, event cakes, and wedding cakes! I am most proud of selling a product that not only looks great and of good quality, but tastes even better. I honestly get more compliments on the taste than designs alone!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I plan to continue to do what I am doing and see where it takes me!
