Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Probert
Hi Alyssa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in the mental health and social work fields almost a decade ago, driven by a passion for helping others navigate the challenges life throws their way. As a queer person, I recognized the unique struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community and saw a need for providers who not only understand but also identify with these experiences. I’ve seen firsthand how trauma impacts our community in ways that often go unacknowledged, and I wanted to create a space where these issues could be addressed with the care and understanding they deserve; a space where individuals could feel safe, understood, and supported in their journeys.
This led me to found Point North Therapeutic Services in 2021, creating a place where people from all walks of life can find support in managing difficulties, exploring their identities, and working through some of the toughest times in their lives. Since its inception, Point North Therapy has expanded, which was an important milestone for me. Expanding allows us to reach more people and offer our services to a broader community. While we are proudly queer-owned and operated, and deeply committed to serving the LGBTQ+ community, our doors are open to anyone seeking help with general mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and the stressors of daily living.
At Point North Therapeutic Services, we’re fortunate to have diverse and skilled therapists who bring unique expertise and passion to their work.
Delilah Montoya has a strong background in community mental health, which has given her a deep understanding of the challenges many face. She is particularly passionate about working with adults who have experienced trauma and she is passionate about perinatal mental health and postpartum care. Delilah’s empathetic approach helps her clients navigate these complex and often overwhelming experiences, offering them the support they need during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives.
Richard Berg brings a wealth of experience working with foster and adoptive families. He enjoys working with both the children and parents in these families, helping them navigate the unique dynamics and challenges they face. Richard also enjoys working with couples and offers support to individuals and families with children as young as 10. His work is marked by a commitment to fostering strong, healthy relationships and helping his clients find stability and connection in their lives.
Together, Delilah and Richard embody the values of Point North Therapy, providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to help individuals and families heal and thrive.
Being trauma-informed and authentic in our approach is at the heart of what we do. It’s vital to me that our clients feel they can be their true selves in a safe and understanding environment. At Point North Therapy, we strive to embody the authenticity we encourage in those we help.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been both smooth and challenging. As a fairly new practice, we’ve faced the challenge of not being as well-connected in the community as we’d like to be. Building those connections takes time, and it’s something we’re actively working on to ensure that Point North Therapy becomes a trusted resource for those in need.
We’ve also encountered some growing pains, particularly in finding the right fit as we’ve expanded. Bringing on therapists who align with our values and approach has been essential, and while it’s taken time, the process has been ultimately rewarding. As we grow, it’s vital to me that our therapists feel well-supported and aren’t at risk of burnout. Striking that balance is something I’m deeply committed to, not only for the well-being of our team but also for the quality of care our clients receive. When our therapists are energized and fully present, our clients benefit the most.
In terms of community engagement, we’re working hard to build stronger connections. Whether through partnerships, outreach efforts, or simply being a consistent presence in the community, our goal is to ensure that Point North Therapy is seen as a reliable and accessible resource.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future of Point North Therapy. We have goals to expand our services, continue building community connections, and further support our team in their professional growth. Despite the challenges, I’m confident that we’re on the right path, and I’m excited to see how we can continue to grow and make a meaningful impact.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those just starting out, one key piece of advice is to focus on building connections within your community. It might seem like an extra task, but networking with other professionals and potential clients can lead to valuable opportunities and collaborations. A strong network can be incredibly beneficial.
Also, remember to prioritize self-care and avoid burnout. This work can be emotionally demanding, so it’s important to set boundaries and find ways to recharge. Taking care of yourself is essential for both your well-being and your ability to provide the best care for your clients.
Another important aspect is valuing the input of your staff. Listening to their perspectives and incorporating their feedback can lead to growth and improvement in your practice. Creating an environment where everyone feels heard and valued not only boosts morale but also enhances the overall effectiveness of your team.
Lastly, be patient with yourself and with the process. Success takes time, and you’ll face challenges along the way. Embrace these challenges as learning opportunities and stay adaptable. Each experience, whether it feels like a win or a setback, contributes to your growth and the development of your practice.
Starting out can be both exciting and daunting, but focusing on relationships and self-care will set you up for a rewarding and successful career.
