Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Lilienfield.
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started going to the Nike outlet summer of 2021 and I found this sneaker that had a market value of around $500. After that I kinda became addicted to the hunt of finding the next sneaker to flip. At this point I was an Art Teacher at a k-8 school, and I had no intention of this becoming my full time career, at first it was just like a fun side hustle. One thing led to another, I started live streaming and selling my shoes starting at $1 auctions on an app called whatnot and now this is my full time job. I quit my job as a teacher a year ago for my business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has definitely not been a smooth road, for the first two years of running my business I worked basically 2 jobs at once and was lacking sleep. Time management has been an issue and also learning how to lead and be a boss
We’ve been impressed with Bratty Kicks LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I sell sneakers and create content revolving around sneakers. I sell my sneakers on a live streaming platform called whatnot and run my product for auctions starting at $1. So I’m basically an Internet personality and I sell sneakers. I am known for selling sneakers and entertaining my viewer’s and buyers in the process. I travel to sneaker events all over the US all year round buying sneakers to sell on my auctions. What sets me apart from others in my industry is the fact I am a woman in a male dominated space. My mission at the end of the day is to inspire women to go after their dreams despite the social norms placed upon us just from our gender. Basically to break the social norm.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I took a few major risks to grow my business (still growing). I quit my full time salary and benefits job as a teacher last year to pursue this dream of mine. This was a huge risk due to the fact I was no longer going to have a steady income to depend on which really pushed me into a corner. But I think it was worth it and I would do it all over again. Risk taking is needed to level up but you need to believe in yourself 100% to take it. Because when you’re pushed up against the wall trying to figure it out, you can not doubt yourself.
