Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Soriano.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my first DSLR/nice camera in 2016 because I wanted to take better photos of my dogs and my surroundings while also distracting me from fertility treatments/infertility by learning something new. Since then I’ve photographed landscapes, my dogs of course, and participated in a weekly photo challenge which pushed me to expand my art. I’ve also had 2 children since then and when I had my daughter I knew I wanted to continue to improve my photography skills to capture how she changed and her little personality. After I had my son a year ago, I upgraded my camera and decided to start a business because I want to help other mothers and families freeze these moments with their kids, because time just goes by too fast.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a steep learning curve starting a small business. But with the help of educational resources, mentors, and my desire to fulfill this dream, I’m making it happen.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a portrait photographer, I specialize in carefree and fun family photo sessions, in-home relaxed and connection filled newborn sessions and children’s portraits that capture the authentic personalities of children.
My sessions in all genres are not about smiling at the camera and saying “cheese,” but focus on authentic connection and interactions. During family sessions it’s all about playing and having fun! During newborn sessions we slow down a little and capture those details of your new addition, while you hold, snuggle and love on them. Children’s portraits sessions are all about letting kids just be themselves so we can capture beautifully simple images that radiate with their personalities.
I’m most proud of how I’m able to interact with families and kids to put them at ease and allow them to open up and just be their authentic selves during a session. You can probably tell that authenticity is important to me, so I pride myself in being able to allow parents to relax, and have the energy of the kids direct the flow of a photo session. It makes for sessions that go by quickly and with more amazing images than we know what do with.
I’m a nurse as well as a photographer, and being a nurse has taught me a lot about compassion and organization. Both of these things I think make me a better photographer. My compassion comes in when I notice a parent is worried about how their kid is going to behave and knowing to give them the space to feel that, but also reassuring them that I’m not worried about it. My organizational skills allow me to get all the information my clients need for them to have a stress free session in an organized and timely manner. And then during the session, it allows me to put in place a system to quickly capture beautiful images.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been really inspired by the work of Elena S. Blair, White Pines Photography and Mackenzie Pudenz and have participated in their online mentorships and classes which have helped me step up my editing game as well as helped me learn a bit about the ins and outs of running a photography business
