Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Belveal.
Josh, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started filmmaking in high school, from one English class video project, my friends and I decided to take way too seriously. As my first real exposure into the world of video, that project sparked a curiosity that ignited my passion to craft and tell stories.
I took it upon myself to learn everything I could about the process and never looked back. Now, 6 years later, I’m a creative professional with a degree in film and media production under my belt. Amazing what impact that homework assignment had on my life!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Learning my craft has been quite the journey so far and I think the hardest struggles along the way were always due to lack of resources available to continue my growth. But at the end of the day, lack of money, equipment, resources, etc. those things force you to really flex your creativity and learn, it’s made me a stronger, more capable filmmaker now than if I never went through those experiences.
I’m still early on in my career, so a constant challenge is making the right choices towards my long-term goal of working in feature and television production.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bel Film story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a freelance director, cinematographer and editor, I offer video production services to businesses and individuals, whether that be shooting music videos, wedding videography, narrative film, commercial and marketing material or industrial. I’m still working my way into some of these markets, as my background largely consists of short film, music video and narrative work.
As a freelance artist, I think what sets me apart is my passion, dedicated work ethic, ability to stretch my resources and my desire to go above and beyond for every project. I obsess over the details, making sure the projects I am a part of, turn out fantastic for clients and collaborators. I love to tell stories and I strive to help others tell theirs.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really think luck has had anything to do with it. Whether in life or work, I believe it’s about putting in the time, the hard work and placing yourself in the right places, the right situations, to fulfill your goals and find success. Make it happen!
