Today we’d like to introduce you to Bevla Reeves.

Hi Bevla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m all about getting my hands dirty and making things happen. Since I was a little kid, I’ve been crafting stuff out of whatever scraps I could find, scavenging for exciting materials that spoke to me. Growing up in a family of seven on a military salary meant money was tight. As the fourth of five children, my parents were often busy, so I learned to be independent early on. If I wanted something, I had to hustle and find a way to get it myself. That drive to have what I wanted and my natural ambition fueled my passion for creativity, independence, and finding unconventional ways to get ahead. I was so eager to kickstart my adult life that I went to summer school every year to graduate high school at 16 with a cosmetology license. I left the house to strike out on my own, diving headfirst into a beauty career. That decision took me around the world as a celebrity hairstylist at 21, then diving into entrepreneurship, owning my beauty businesses. From there, I dove into real estate investing, flipping 28 houses in two years. I’ve started and run several successful small businesses, including one that empowered over 100 women to start and grow their ventures. I founded Savory Sky Foods, LLC, the brains behind FLAMING OATS™ premium plant-based protein meals. After launching a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2023, I’m taking it to the next level.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been challenging; entrepreneurship is hard when bootstrapping and hustling. Most of my business projects were very successful. However, market forces beyond my control often forced some businesses to close or pivot into something new. The market crash in 2008 forced my online beauty business to close because my customers no longer had discretionary income to pay for luxury items. When interest rates went sky-high, my real estate business came to a screeching halt. FLAMING OATS™ has brought me to a new industry with a steep learning curve, and it’s taking grit to get off the ground. However, creativity and entrepreneurship as a lifestyle are worth the fight.
