Hi Alexis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ink Oil, LLC, was created by a very cool, tattooed mom and her daughter. The day I turned 18 I got my first tattoo. I quickly recognized that getting a tattoo, or even removing a tattoo, can be seriously uncomfortable. My mom was using essential oils in many aspects of our lives. I recognized the therapeutic effects of pure essential oils in a unique blend that could provide a product that can reduce discomfort, speed healing, and keep skin healthy and vibrant while getting tattooed.
With the help of my pharmacist brother, cool tattooed essential oil using mom, and the sacrifice of most of my body for tattoo oil testing, we got Ink Oil up and running successfully. We then decided to expand our line of essential oil blends and our family to cover not only new tattoos but beards, baby bumps, and our favorite addition, pups!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Heck no, we’ve made so many mistakes along the way! Starting a small business is hard, and even harder to keep one open. I remember our first trade show; we had banners, info cards, and stickers all printed. We were so excited until I realized I’d spelled beard, and bear, on EVERYTHING.
We’ve tried to partner with larger companies and been taken advantage of, and we’ve paid uttles of money for trademarks we will never use, it’s all a learning process. Luckily for the most part it’s all fun and good laughs as we make it through the struggles.

My mom, partnered with me and has been a HUGE part of keeping the business going. Megan McMurtrey, took over our cosmetic line and has done a phenomenal job with the marketing and connecting with our customer base.
I work with a business coach, Kerrie Fitzgerald, and her E-commerce Society, this has been a big help in navigating the small business. Family, boyfriend, and my two pups for taking endless photos for social media and always smelling of essential oils.
