Meet Lara Schmoisman of The Darl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lara Schmoisman.

Hi Lara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At just 14 years old, I began working at a radio station as a radio DJ learning the ropes. From there, I went to school to earn a certificate in screenwriting and a BA in radio and TV production. But life after college wasn’t exactly easy as I was unable to find a job. Almost 24 years ago, life and circumstances took me to the United States to learn English – since I didn’t speak a word of English back then.

At that time, I was sleeping on a hand-me-down mattress with coils literally sticking out of it. I was taking as many jobs as I could and sleeping little, but even so – somehow life was starting to fall into place. One thing led to another, and some doors started opening.

I worked in radio, TV, film distribution, digital, marketing, and advertising. Little by little, by working in a variety of agencies, I fell in love with the online business world. Although, after flirting and dating for a while with each medium, I came to the realization that I didn’t want to settle down with any of them because each one was equally important. As I was taking a step back, new opportunities came my way, which prompted me to start The Darl.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the most important risks I have taken is creating marketing learning content accessible to a traditionally underserved market in two different languages. I host two weekly podcasts (Coffee N.5, in English and Marketing Simplificado, in Spanish) on marketing and content creation. I also created two Facebook communities (in both languages) open to all kinds of entrepreneurs, agency owners, freelancers and anyone with an interest in building relationships, collaborating and connecting with like-minded individuals.

Also, I host virtual events at TH!NK COLLECTIVE, where business experts from various industries share their knowledge, tips and tools of how others can rise in their respective fields. In an effort to make this journey as easy as possible, each TH!NK Talk gives the audience an opportunity to apply these teachings to their own business strategy—so they can become who they’ve always dreamed of becoming.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I believe it is necessary to make an impact in the content marketing space by providing accessible bilingual marketing resources and learning platforms to otherwise underserved Latinx communities. My ultimate mission is to close the gap and make marketing accessible by educating the Latinx community on how to thrive and stand out in the American market. I do this by offering simplified “how-to” resources across a variety of platforms including podcasts, free networking workshops and events meant to facilitate life-changing global introductions in the marketing space, online marketing courses, and by having active Facebook communities (both in English and in Spanish). Furthermore, I specifically looks to employ up-and-coming members of the global Latinx community, further providing access to opportunity for those traditionally underserved.

Services The Darl offers:

– Identity and branding: At The Darl, they think branding, launching, positioning, and accelerating! They take a creative and strategic approach. Their classic design elements will keep connecting with your audience over time.

– Brand publishing: They connect through stories and helping their clients find their voices. Using all of their experience and techniques to choose which publishing media are relevant to you. The ongoing team support and collaboration for finding what interests your audience makes brand publishing effortless

– Social content: At the Darl, they are social content visionaries. Creating and capturing, designing and developing. They reinvent storytelling to stand out through all platforms.

– Production: For THE DARL, a full-service production studio, there is no creative job too small or too big for their team. When they embrace a brand, they always raise the bar.

– 360 digital marketing: One element cannot be isolated from the big picture of the digital jungle. They envision, create, strategize, design, develop, and maintain digital experiences. The Darl tells cohesive stories that carry through all platforms.

Any big plans?
Last year, I began hosting my own podcast Coffee N5, where I aimed to help others let go of what’s holding them back and become the person they’re meant to be. I’ve had some really amazing conversations with experts in a variety of fields, but it also made me conscious that there weren’t similar how-to podcasts in Spanish. I realized that while the Latinx community has come a long way, it is still missing out on opportunities and does not get equal support on several levels, initiatives and business which can be quite discouraging. Which is why I also launched Marketing Simplificado and made it my goal to provide accessible bilingual marketing resources and learning platforms to otherwise underserved Latinx communities.

Apart from this, we just launched TH!NK COLLECTIVE, where we are not afraid to get dirty, we roll-up our sleeves and go to the matters of business.

In every event, we invite a different business expert from different backgrounds and fields, but they all have something in common – each one has something to teach helping others to scale in the business world.

In both projects, our mission is to make everything as simple as possible so anyone can learn something new, and inspire our audience and participants to start a new adventure.
