Today we’d like to introduce you to Romekia Brown. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Born and raised in Mississippi, Romekia is a true country girl with a city grind. Romekia grew up in Crystal Springs with her parents and her 6 siblings. From a young age, Romekia always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Her passion for teaching was undeniable. She received her degree from college in Early Childhood Education and began working with children with special needs. In 2017, Romekia relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. Originally, Romekia made this move to begin again with a fresh outlook on life. However, the surrounding beauty of Arizona made her realize something that she had longed for quite some time: her own inner beauty.
Romekia felt a calling to break out of her shy cocoon and spread her wings for the world to see. Among her many talents, Romekia has taken the time to perfect her individuality in the modeling industry as she is exploring into Commercial advertising, and Commercial print.
In 2018, Romekia start a brand named “I CHOOSE ME” created to encourage Self- Love, Self- Confidence, and Restoration. Using her fashionista ways to inspire women that dress up the exterior but understand confidence come from within.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it was definitely not a smooth road on this journey. So many trial and errors which pushed me even harder. Some of the struggles I’ve encountered was people not taking you serious because of the way I looked as a plus model, society has it way of letting you know you’re not what we are wanting to see on the big screen. I never gave up I created my own lane I always remembered nothing comes easy.

I am proud to announce the launch of Model University (MU) January of 2022 MU as a, “brand inspired by… plus size men and women who wanted to learn how to become a model. MU will be a virtual online platform that educates, empowers and inspires [people of size] who desire to learn about the business in entertainment and modeling industry.” MU also offers consultation services under “Discover Me” which provides clients the opportunity to plan a career strategy, discover the right image, develop a portfolio and much more.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love everything about Phoenix, it’s a diamond in the rough so many opportunities that will allow you to excel. There are a lot of things missing here but that’s the best part it gives you the opportunity to create what’s not here.
