Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Zettle.
Abby graduated from Penrose Academy in esthetics in 2014 and obtained her laser technician license from NALA Institute. After living in Arizona for nearly 12+ years and shortly after receiving her license, Abby wanted to change scenery and to pursue her career in NYC. Abby lived in NYC for a little over two years and performed laser treatments throughout that time. She also happened to work for Brazil Bronze in Soho who specialized in spray tans (https://zbodsspraytanning.com/airbrush-spray-tan). This is when Abby truly found her passion in spray tanning. She raved to her family and friends how much she loved it. She felt that she found her passion. And she did.
Abby grew up watching her father run a business. She watched a man whose principles were astounding and always treated people with respect. One thing she learned from her father, who ran a business, was to create value and customers will come.
Abby absolutely loved spray tanning and she knew she was good at it. But what made her really excited was the solution called Brazil Bronze. The company she worked for, Brazil Bronze, manufactured their own tanning solution and is one of the most popular tanning solutions on the east coast. Abby knew a tanning solution such as Brazil Bronze needed to be in Arizona. But most importantly, she found her purpose and discovered her dream: to open her own spray tanning salon.
After having this vision and wanting to open a tanning salon, Abby reached out to her older brother Ryan who has a background in web development and marketing. Ryan founded a digital studio in January 2015 that has worked with several startups that recently were funded respectively $1,5 million in February 2019 and another company who was acquired for more than $1 million in July 2019. Ryan liked the concept of providing a different solution to the Arizona market and also wanted to help in Abby’s dreams.
Fast forward to three years later and Z Bods Spray Tanning now has two business locations in Scottsdale. Arizona residents have really taken a liking to this unique solution in the Arizona market. The solution has no smell and no orange. It’s not the darkest solution on the market, but for good reason. The main focus is to make people look natural and comfortable with a tan while also protecting customer’s skin from UV Rays. In addition, Z Bods has declined to buy tanning beds because of the long-term health concerns even though we get inquiries daily.
Z Bods has plans to add additional services that complement spray tanning and Abby’s talents. Z Bods is also planning expand to the Phoenix valley in the upcoming year.
Being from Arizona, she was fully aware of skin cancer studies and was always mindful of not being in the sun for too long.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
List of struggles:
– Finding employees that know how to represent our brand the right way
– Employees leaving to start own tanning business
– Employees stealing (instilled too much trust)
– Having all Yelp reviews diminished for multiple reasons (yelp can’t provide an answer)

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Add more services that our customers ask for that compliment spray tanning. Running a brick-and-mortar isn’t easy, but we both wouldn’t change it for anything. We learn and grow as a team.
