Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Maria McGraw-Abdalla.
Sara Maria McGraw-Abdalla is passionate about changing lives and changing the world. Her mantra is ‘Better is Available’, and it is her mission to help people achieve their best life. With a background in property management, Sara Maria spent the last ten years working in housing in DC and Virginia before moving to Phoenix Arizona in August of 2017. Sara Maria worked a contract job with the City of Phoenix Section 8 before starting her own business- The Landlord Liaisons LLC in 2018.
The Landlord Liaisons work with landlords that want to increase their revenue while helping their community, and also provides education and consulting for new and current landlords. Her company is focusing on an initiative for getting more section 8 landlords for The City of Phoenix.
Sara Maria has always had a heart for women- inspiring her sisters, uplifting them and supporting them so that they can show up as the best version of themselves. Better is available. When she moved to Phoenix, Sara Maria was on a mission to meet women leaders who were making a difference in the world. The Sisterhood Extravaganza was one organization that Sara Maria joined where she met her mentor and co-authored her first book ‘‘Empowering Women to Succeed vol. 2: Overcoming Obstacles’, where she shared her journey of overcoming her mindset and other challenges.
In the Spring of 2019., Sara Maria joined ‘With A Bhang’- the first Black Female Founded Cannabis Promotions & Staffing Agency, as an Account Executive and Brand Ambassador. Being a pioneer in the Cannabis Industry, Sara Maria wants to bring minority women and men into this industry, break barriers and kill stigmas.
In February 2020, Sara Maria will be featured the ‘On the Rise, Women to Watch’ section of The Know Book, which is the 100 women you must KNOW and do business within the Valley.
Has it been a smooth road?
The mindset has been the biggest obstacle for me to overcome. When I took the leap of faith and started The Landlord Liaisons, I had no idea how my mind would change. I think I went into business backward! Mindset is KEY and My mind went into overdrive and I had to learn how to control it. I never knew what I was truly capable of until I met my mentor and started going to therapy.
I had to unlearn all these bad habits that I had collected my entire life and now learn a new way of thinking. It wasn’t until I moved to Phoenix that I EVER thought about having my own business- I was at an event and I heard a woman’s story(Olenka Cullinan, Founder of IStartFirst ) of how she came to phoenix with nothing and built an empire from scratch. When I heard her story I felt that I too could start a business. And that was the beginning for me!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Landlord Liaisons – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Landlord Liaisons mission is to educate and empower Landlords with the proven tools to increase their revenue and be successful in the Housing Industry while positively impacting their community and to the tenants that they serve.
We believe that with the proper tools and education, you can make your landlord experience one that is both rewarding and beneficial for both you and your tenants and community.
We offer educational classes for both new and existing Landlords such as Landlord 101, Intro to Fair Housing and the Landlord/Tenant Act, Pricing your rental properties to stand out and more.
We are known for our signature program: ‘How to Expand your Real Estate portfolio using Government Money‘.
This is specifically for Landlords who want to INCREASE their revenue stream, have GUARANTEED rental income monthly AND have quality tenants in their properties.
The goal of our program is to have more Section 8 Landlords for the City of Phoenix, which will help prevent tenants vouchers from expiring because there are no landlords and therefore they end up homeless.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
For me, Phoenix is the land of opportunity. You can come here and start a business. You can connect with like minded individuals who want to make a difference with the time they are given. I love the women that I have met her- beautiful, powerful, strong women who support and uplift each other.
What I like least is that because Phoenix is so spread out, people tend to stay in their general area and when you do this, you are unaware of how your neighbor lives. It is easy to stay in your bubble and not worry about homelessness or poverty or racism if it is not affecting you directly or you are not exposed to it daily.
I have noticed that there is a gap between what people think the average cost of living is, or what the average salary is and the harsh reality, which often surprises people. Again- if you are not around people that are different from you, then you never know how anyone else lives.
