Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Bucher.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I would be happy to! It all started seven years ago – I was a new mom in love with every moment of my boys’ lives. Every ‘first’ had to be captured, every moment preserved. I started photography as a hobby, began posting on social media, and then my work started getting noticed.
My friend Monique of Monique Hessler Weddings invited me to second shoot for her and I immediately fell in love with wedding photography. You see, I’m a sucker for a love story (give me all the Hallmark movies please!) and I get so much joy in capturing these moments for my couples!
I put together a business plan and executed. I started attending classes, workshops, and conferences to grow my skill set. I learned how to run a business and any profit that I made was reinvested to buy high quality gear and grow my business. I connected in the industry and built a network with other creatives.
Monique has been my mentor since day one and her support and encouragement has been the best part of this journey (Monique, you mean the world to me!!). She has inspired me to pay it forward by mentoring other photographers in their craft and I also volunteer coverage at non-profits events.
I’ve had my business for six years now and while I still specialize in weddings, I also love capturing growing families. So that is what you will find me doing these days, capturing real genuine moments between couples and within families. I hope you’ll connect with me on Facebook and Instagram to see my latest work!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Balancing work and life can be a challenge. I am also a mom, a wife and I have a career in the Information Technology industry. At times my enthusiasm and persistence in my business will cause me to extend myself a little bit, but I love it too much to slow down. I also love becoming friends with my couples and families and getting to be part of their journey. I get so much joy out of keeping in touch and having the honor of capturing their special life moments, even long after their wedding.
We’d love to hear more about what you do. What sets you apart?
What strive to capture in every session is realness; real genuine emotion. I look for the moments when they don’t think I’m looking. I aim to capture photos that I would want… as a mom, as a wife, as a best friend, etc. At weddings, I am intentional about capturing sweet moments between the groom and his mom and the bride and her dad. In family sessions, I am looking for genuine hugs and laughs between siblings and sweet moments between parents and their kiddos.
I am a proud creative, but I am also a very technical person. This technical skillset sets me apart because I’m able to achieve beautiful results in difficult lighting situations and I consistently push myself to try and master new and innovative techniques.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was into cheer, volleyball, softball, and being outside. Some of my favorite memories involve roller skates, jump rope and playing with the neighborhood kids. I grew up in a small town (Superior, AZ!) where everyone knew everyone… which also meant your parents knew what trouble you got into before you even got home, ha! Thank you for the opportunity to share with you today!
