Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Hale.
Matt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
One of my partners, Dr. Steve Gubernick, originally came up with the idea of creating a spa like in environment within the acupuncture space. He leveraged our relationship and the other foundering partners, whom are all seasoned franchisors, to launch the concept. The moment we started the concept interest from many experienced franchisees and regional developers from other concepts started knocking on our door. Their visions of how we can change lives one needle at a time aligned with ours and from there we started awarding licenses in many different states at a record pace.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Just like any startup we’ve experienced some minor hiccups but nothing to extreme. When you bring in many wonderful and experienced vendors, Regional Developers, and Franchisees into your organization it can make the ride much smoother.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Modern Acupuncture is the first franchise to make the natural health and cosmetic benefits of acupuncture available to people in an accessible and affordable delivery. Modern Acupuncture combines a healing form that has been validated by thousands of years with a modern, clean and spa-like environment to provide guests with a peaceful sanctuary that they can make part of their regular routine. The enhanced acupuncture experience utilizes needle therapy on nodes to increase blood flow, but unlike traditional acupuncture does not require the removal of any clothing to access full-body health.
Upon entering Modern Acupuncture, guests are greeted by simplistic yet contemporary decor with calming colors and natural wood elements, sending them into an instant state of tranquility. After a customized consultation with a Modern Acupuncture Zen Advisor, guests are taken back to the Zen Den, a relaxing retreat outfitted with soundproof insulation, lounge-style recliners, calming sounds and cool earth tones, ensuring a multi-sensory experience while essential or cosmetic acupuncture services are delivered.
Acupuncturists at Modern Acupuncture are required to be certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM®)after completing a three-year master’s degree from an accredited school. They are further trained in the specific method used at Modern Acupuncture by Robert Doane, EAMP, L.AC., DIPL., C.H., co-founder at Modern Acupuncture and world-renowned acupuncturist and educator.
Acupuncture is an ancient form of healing that originates from China and has been practiced for more than 4,000 years. There have been examples of acupuncture treating all kinds of conditions ranging from chronic pain, diabetes, insomnia, PTSD, stress and more.
Modern Acupuncture also offers cosmetic acupuncture, which helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and restores a youthful glow.
Modern Acupuncture is now franchising across the U.S., and has already awarded nearly 400 franchise licenses across the country.
What are we most proud as a company? Our Mission, and how we are going to make some many people’s lives better.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
There’s an old saying, the harder you work the luckier you get and that’s a pretty true statement. I like to add one word to that statement and that word is smarter. Many people work hard but if you’re working on the wrong thing or if you don’t have the skillset for a certain position hard work may not produce results. But working smarter and harder will achieve results and luck.
