Inspiring Conversations with Alyssa Leon of Cherry Blossom Doula Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Leon.

Alyssa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story started off as a little girl with a seed that had been planted far before I knew what it would grow into. I have always been fascinated with all things birth and had many side roads that all led me to where I am today. Before I became a certified doula in 2o13, I obtained my childbirth educator certification and lactation educator training while working at a local obgyn office teaching group prenatal classes. I applied for a mentorship program at a local birth center and continued attending births as a doula.

Over the next four years, I continued supporting families in all birth settings and, in 2018, decided to expand Cherry Blossom and brought on another labor doula due to the increase in clientele. In 2019, Cherry Blossom added Postpartum Doula services with the increase of families needing more support after they brought their sweet babes home! In the middle of 2019, Cherry Blossom opened their first office, which provided a warm and professional space for clients to attend appointments, monthly group meetups and our free weekly postpartum community group.

In 2020, we were challenged with all of the hospital restrictions and constantly changing birth environments. This time really allowed our team to become stronger, showing up for each other through loving support.

Currently, 2021 has been the busiest year yet! We are a team of seven (and growing) and I co-founded the Root and Rise Collective AZ, which supports our community from pregnancy, postpartum and beyond!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I feel that when we are aligned in our life’s work, opportunities are abundant, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t challenges. Confidence has been the biggest personal challenge. Feeling as though I was deserving of a successful business even though I did not have the formal business education has always been complicated.

Once I started truly believing in my ability to grow my business and continue to support and encourage others, is when I really started to notice the biggest changes. More doors have opened this last year than all of my years combined.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Leaving my comfortable and safe full-time job in 2013 was the biggest risk I had ever taken (to start my own business.) I had a lot of friends and family that were skeptical and didn’t understand why or what I was doing.

My faith and “knowing” that it was all going to work out was stronger than my fear that it wasn’t. (I’m also very stubborn, so once I made up my mind, I was going to do whatever I could to make it work out.) Every risk I have taken since then has felt minimal… and truly understanding that if something doesn’t work out, it’s because it wasn’t the right thing to begin with and that another opportunity will present itself on the other side.
