Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Mayorga.
Hi Carlos, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into locksmithing started in 2015. As the trucking company I was working for had slowed down significantly, I was only able to work 16 hours a week, making money difficult to come by. Seeing this opportunity to learn something new or new set of skills, I decided to pursue becoming a locksmith and found the Foley Belsaw Locksmith home study course. I dedicated myself every day to learning and practicing the material I had studied that day.
Once I completed the course and graduated, I immediately applied for various locksmith positions and was eventually hired by NSBS as a key shop helper in 2016. NSBS then became Miner, a large Facility Maintenance company, and I worked there as an in-house locksmith servicing major retail stores such as Apple, Verizon, AT&T, Ross, and many other recognizable brands. It’s been an incredible journey!
A year later (2017), my boss offered me the opportunity to take over the key shop and sent me back to school to learn more about the field like Access Control and automobile locksmithing, and get my state Locksmith license. I’m thankful to God that they had faith in me to do the job! Miner paid for all the classes. I attended the California Institute of Locksmithing and that same year I quit my trucking job.
In 2018, Miner decided to close down their office in California and relocate operations to Texas, and eventually went out of business. With the Severance money they gave me, I decided to open my own Locksmith mobile business and on August 10, 2018, I opened C.A.M Locksmith as a part-time side job. Also, I returned to my old trucking job.
When I first started, my main focus was on residential and commercial Locksmithing, but as demand for locksmith services in my area grew, I slowly but steadily began offering automobile locksmith services as well. This past November, I made the decision to relocate from Lynwood, California to Phoenix, Arizona where I have now set up my new locksmith shop at home. As a mobile locksmith, I offer customers a convenient service that can be accessed right in their neighborhood.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never easy. When I first started my business, one of the biggest struggles was finding new customers, but I’m thankful for the success I’ve seen. Now the challenge I am having at this moment is to consistently get work orders and service calls – there are weeks when I’m very busy and then other times when things can be slow. However, I’m so grateful for my loyal returning customers who consistently come through with work orders to help keep me busy. I am blessed to have them and service them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about C.A.M Locksmith?

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I wanted to share with you a little bit about myself. I was born in Torrance, California, but grew up in Paramount. Growing up, I always had a calm and collected nature; trying to stay away from confrontation whenever possible. When around people I am more talkative but at first can be somewhat shy.
One of my main interests has always been mechanical work, especially when it comes to getting my hands dirty. I believe this interest stemmed from watching my dad, who is an automobile mechanic. On the weekends I would often help him out with fixing cars – mostly just handing him tools! – and developed a curiosity for how things work particularly locks.
My other interest has been music – specifically playing the piano and guitar – although this didn’t kick off until later on in life (at 20 years old). My dad wasn’t initially supportive of my wanting to learn the piano or guitar but I eventually found classes at the church that I attended at that time and began learning them. Overall, growing up I was quite reserved and stayed away from the trouble!
