Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlie Doley.
Hi Carlie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
It’s hard to believe that I am already graduating in May and that this chapter of my life is coming to an end. In 2018, after graduating from high school I moved for the first time in my life, across the country no less, to study fashion at Arizona State University. Prior to this, in high school, I always loved fashion but did not realize I was capable of making a career out of it.
At the time, many people frowned upon my goals and said I would not be successful, even as so much to say, I wouldn’t make it through more than one semester at ASU. Though none of this negativity stopped me. Four interesting and life-changing years later here I am, finalizing my portfolio and trying to get my feet on the ground.
With only a few months to spare, I have been preparing myself and my work for the next step of this chapter, and I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped shape and prepare me for what lies ahead. Without all these special people, I would never be where I am today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. Between being on my own for the first time, struggling to find my people and myself, and eventually, the pandemic, my four years in college have definitely been interesting, to say the least.
However, all of the situations I found myself in were tests to get me where I am today and allowed me to find myself. This has influenced me to pursue my dream career in fashion, more specifically focusing on editorial styling and fashion forecasting. In my last year of high school and continuing through the first two years of college, I always knew I wanted to be in fashion I just didn’t know what part.
Although I am very far away from my goals it’s exciting to see me strive for my dreams and to finally know what they are. Finding my passion has been hard but it’s definitely been worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love all things styling, trend forecasting, and graphic design! Currently, I am a stylist and graphic designer for StyleLine Magazine, ASU’s official student-led fashion magazine. My wonderful friends started this club and magazine, and it has definitely been a huge creative outlet for me.
I have been given the opportunity and creative freedom to work and collaborate with like-minded individuals, while simultaneously building connections and relationships. When it comes to styling I am interested in runway, editorial and wardrobe, and currently offer my own personal shopping and styling services! This is something fresh and in the works but I am so excited. I am definitely known for my creativity when it comes to my work. Also for having a unique, yet consistent personal style, and being able to integrate that in and out of whatever looks I am building. My work is even beginning to be recognized by many who have seen what I’ve done before. I also offer custom upcycles, case by case of course! If you have a design in mind and the materials to execute, send it my way and I’ll make your fashion fantasy come true.
