Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Lang.
Hi Noah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Photography for myself started on an iPhone as it does for most people. My interest in wanting to capture all the places I was hiking turned into buying a professional camera just a few years ago in 2017 where I taught myself everything that I know today. This all led to starting my blog which is now where most of my time is spent. It’s one of the best ways to get yourself online rather than relying on social media which feels a bit more out of your control.
On a blog, you can get somebody’s eyes for a few minutes, but on social media, you are lucky to get somebody’s attention for a few seconds. Focusing on what I can control with my own website has taken my business to where it is today, and I only hope to gain more free time to do the things I love like hiking and mountaineering through my work with photography and the blog.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced were and still continue to be my commitments outside of my work.
If I had 100% of my time to dedicate to the business, I could turn it into so much more in a shorter time. However, by committing to getting a degree in order to diversify myself, I would be lying if I said it didn’t take valuable time away from the business. Learning to find this balance and deciding if I will jump into it full-time in a few years is my biggest struggle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m most known for how much hiking I do whether at home in Hawaiʻi or around the world. On top of this, I’ve been one of the biggest advocates for using what I’ve learned in school to encourage others to hike responsibly. Hawaiʻi has a ton of unique challenges that the mainland will never face on the same scale like too many people visiting natural areas, erosion, and endangered species. These are all issues that I try to talk about in a responsible way through my work as someone who is a big advocate for public land use.
Outside of this, I’m most proud of how hiking in Hawaiʻi has turned into climbing the highest peak in North America. Mountaineering is a hobby that I wish I had access to more often, but I am grateful for it when I get the opportunity to climb.
I think what sets me apart is how I am always willing to work harder than everyone for a photo. I will hike farther, I will climb higher, and my interests along with my fitness have allowed me to show off my work in such a unique way. It’s not often that I’m focusing on short hikes and drive-up locations to break out my camera.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If you are planning a trip to Oʻahu, I highly encourage you to check out this Oʻahu post. Since this is where I live, I have some of the best non-touristy recommendations that you will never see on most other websites. It’s the kind of information that I feel most visitors are looking for, but it can be difficult to find among a sea of bad recommendations on Google from people that don’t even live on the island.
