Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Fenn.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I created LUA skincare with the philosophy that nature has the power to heal, protect and rejuvenate skin. I am also an artist and use my artwork as the design inspiration behind the brand. After using oils on my skin for over 15 years, I wanted to create something that would appeal to my teenage daughter that was both clean, green and aesthetic.
In the summer of 2016, the first LUA skincare set was created as a simple way to help start a daily skincare ritual that is plant-based, vegan and cruelty-free with a desire to incorporate eco-conscious packaging whenever possible.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am surprised at how quickly business has grown in such a short amount of time. I have really focused on more of a grassroots marketing effort to help get the word out as well as attending the right markets and expos. It has been pretty smooth with just a few struggles along the way, mainly trying to find the space as we grow and also as a small business owner, you really do pretty much everything from designing to marketing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with LUA skincare – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
LUA skincare is a simple, plant-based skincare line that takes on a more colorful and modern approach to the natural product scene which can sometimes be more subdued. I am the owner, designer and creator of all the products as well as the packaging. We are most known for our Ageless face oil and Rose Mint skin tonic. I think our packaging really sets us apart from the other products out there. I wanted something that not only felt great on your skin but also looked good on your counter. The product design and color imparts a cheerfulness before you even use it.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would like to see LUA in a major retailer that I admire. I’ve been approached by a few, so excited to see how it all turns out. I would like to add a few more products and we will soon by outsourcing our production to a local facility in Tempe, AZ that will allow us to fulfill high volume orders.
