Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Moh Yakubi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Moh. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story began in Baghdad, Iraq. The city I was born, raised and shaped the person I am today. I lived my first 18 years there until my family and I had to leave the country due to the dangers of war. We relocated to Jordan for four years where I pursued a career in computer engineering instead of Dentistry simply because my family couldn’t afford the other. There were no financial aid or options for me to do what I wanted to do. I had only few options and only one was for me to continue education.
In 2009 we were officially refugees and the country that accepted us to be part of their family was the U.S. It was a dream come true for my family and myself. The moment we landed in Phoenix, Arizona I knew that I am in my new home. The best part, however, was that I can now do what I always wanted, becoming a dentist
After nine years of studying English and taking my pre-requests, I was able to finally be who I was meant to be. A smile maker, a confidence builder.
But the reason you might ask on why I chose it in the first place was because of a little boy. I remember walking with my uncle in Baghdad and crossing the bridge where I fell down and broke my front baby teeth. The permanent teeth took a very long time to come in and during that period it really affected my confidence and limited my interactions with my friends. I do remember telling myself that one day I want to be able to fix this problem for others. I want everyone to be smiling, happy and confident in who they are, I mean In the end of the day what do we really see when we say “Hi” to each other?
Today I am a dentist, part of the American Academy of General Dentistry and part of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry with my goal of making my patients healthy, happy and most importantly feel like they are cared for.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that with dedication and ambition any road will be slightly smoother than it looks. However, Living through the war, becoming a refugee and learning a whole new language were definitely major obstacles to overcome and achieve my main goal of becoming a dentist
We’d love to hear more about your practice.

With my compassion towards dentistry and the care I love giving every day for my patients, I always felt that I could do more to help. That is why on January 2019 I started my own Dental Parodies of hit songs that focuses on the importance of oral health, which will help educate and spread awareness around the globe. The feedback I’ve received was priceless, it showed me that I must continue this path to help create even more smiles and save lives one tooth at a time.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My love for playing and watching soccer started very early in my childhood. I remember finishing school on Thursdays and coming back home to meet up and play the game with my friends was definitely one of my favorite memories.
