Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Manning of Agave Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Manning.

Hi Megan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Originally, I was a special education teacher. I spent 5 years in the classroom and after having my first child, knew I needed something different that would allow flexibility to my schedule as a new mom. I was a receptionist at a small salon and spa during high school and college and really loved the esthetician. Her treatments were so interesting and diverse! I could really see myself doing that as a professional.

After attending Penrose Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona I went on my own and started renting a room at the same salon and spa I worked for previously, and started establishing a clientele, continued my professional education in skincare, and began creating a name for myself as an esthetician in the West Valley. My husband’s job transferred us to Northern California in 2018 so I closed shop and moved to California. I started working for a salon (my esthetic license wouldn’t transfer due to timing) but I learned some great management and business skills working as a client coordinator in Granite Bay, California. Just as quickly as we transferred, we came back.

I opened my own suite in Glendale, Arizona in November of 2019 and started the grind all over again. COVID-19 hit and caused long-term closures for us in the beauty industry. It definitely impacted my business in the traditional sense but allowed for me to grow in different areas and started my online skincare website. This allowed me to stay afloat during the restart of my business! Since then, I’ve moved suites to a larger location, hired my first employee, and had tremendous service and retail growth!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As previously stated, I transitioned into this career with a young toddler. I felt a lot of pressure leaving the field of education to pursue a career in the beauty industry.

Once I transitioned to a full-time esthetician, I definitely did not have a full book of business. It took time to get full books (filled with ideal and not ideal clients) and once I did, we found out we were having another baby, and then shortly after I returned from maternity leave we found out we were moving to another state.

It was a massive 1-2 punch to my ego; I was devastated. Since starting Agave Aesthetics, we were faced with a global pandemic, state-wide beauty business closures, inventory/product shipping delays, etc.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Agave Aesthetics?
Agave Aesthetics is a skincare and waxing studio in Peoria, Arizona. We specialize in skin care treatments, creating sustainable skincare routines and habits, and work with a “back to basics” approach.

This is ideal for first-time skincare clients or clients who need direction on how to accomplish their skincare goals. We are proud to offer transparency with skincare services, create service plans to accomplish your skincare goals while keeping in mind budget and timing.

We truly care about our clients and offer payment plans on larger skincare bundles as well as skincare samples on just about every product we retail. We believe in “date before you marry” when it comes to skincare products and feel confident in our selections for each of our clients.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Empathy is the most important quality to a great esthetician. It’s important as a beauty professional to know the vulnerability of our clients coming to see us and experience skincare difficulties just like them! We love lending a helping hand and listening ear during our sessions.
