Community Highlights: Meet Katie Kunz of Little Life Changes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Kunz.

Katie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I provide personalized education, support, and connection during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I am a wife, a mom of three littles, Neonatal ICU Nurse, and International Board-Certified Lactation Consult. Caring for babies has always been a big piece of my life, however my passion and drive to care specifically for moms started five years ago when I gave birth to first daughter.

Caring for a newborn came easily to me because I take care of babies professionally, however I struggled with everything else that comes such a big life change. I felt overwhelmed with breastfeeding, maintaining our home, returning to work, caring for myself, and supporting my husband. I was overwhelmed with life, my relationship with my husband was strained, and it was difficult to find the joy in life when I felt stressed with a never ending to do list. Two years later, I had my second baby and I hit rock bottom. I worked with a life coach to help get my life on track. I went through the motions. Then 2020 hit. I gave birth to my third baby in the middle of a pandemic. It was a force stop. A reset. I finally had the time to learn about myself, talk to my husband, evaluate my values, and create a life system that allowed me to appreciate my life and my family.

During this time, I still accepted lactation patients and worked in the NICU. I noticed the deep struggle and overwhelm that all of the new moms were experiencing. I wanted to help prepare them for the massive life changes a new baby brings. Traditional pre-natal education only prepares for the actual birth and may show you how to change a diaper. Yet, the overwhelm these moms experienced was caused by the sudden shift in life they weren’t prepared for.

I decided to use my personal and professional experience to create programs to help prepare moms and their partners for the stuff no one tells you about. Having a baby is tough. It’s a major life change and most people keep the hard stuff a secret and just wish you luck when it’s your turn. I’m seeking to change that reality.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business as a mom of three while also balancing two jobs has definitely not been easy. I’ve had to lean into my faith and the support of my husband to keep me motivated during days of difficulty and doubt. There have been so many times where I want to quit until I remember that I believe my calling in life is to help moms, babies and families experience the joy life intended.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Newborn Life Coaching, I help families prepare for the transition to parenthood as well as the changes that come from transitioning from 1 to more children. Through personalized coaching programs, I support moms through pregnancy, birth, and the newborn period. I customize prenatal education, breastfeeding coaching, and relationship strengthening practices. I bring a unique perspective when supporting my clients because I have four angles of expertise: I am a mom of three young children, I am a Neonatal ICU Nurse, I am a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, and I bring my husband of six years in on some relationship advice. Using each area of expertise, I can provide evidence-based education and personalized support through changes that a new baby brings.

I offer several tiers of coaching & support that range from digital courses & downloadable guides to personalized prenatal, postnatal & breastfeeding education. I believe that it is my calling to help every mom to feel supported in pregnancy, early motherhood and to meet or exceed her breastfeeding goals.

How do you think about luck?
I attribute most of my success and direction to faith. I do believe that we all have a purpose & calling in life and it takes a unique combination of grit, luck, destiny, faith, ambition, planning, and determination to find that calling. Throughout my life I have somehow found myself in situations that have coincidentally directed me to the next step I needed to take in life. I am so grateful that I can show up to work every day and know that my passion and talent align with serving other moms who need support in the same ways that I did.
