Today we’d like to introduce you to Mommie Cakes.
Hi Mommie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Chanel, and I am the proud owner of Mommie Cakes, located in Arizona. 🍰❤️
My journey started back in 2017 on Crenshaw in California with something very close to my heart — a two-day bake sale dedicated to honoring my grandmother, the woman who taught me how to bake.
I started baking when I was just 5 years old, and those early memories of being in the kitchen with my grandmother became the foundation of everything I am building today.
During those two days in 2017, I made $500 simply by selling my small, personal-sized cakes. I remember thinking, “Wow… I can really make money doing something I love.” From that moment, I knew I had found my purpose. I never looked back.
What started as a small dream has grown into so much more.
Today, Mommie Cakes is a 5-star bakery and dessert shop, known not only for delicious, signature cakes and desserts, but for the love and care I put into every single order. I don’t just bake cakes — I create experiences. I want every customer to feel special, heard, appreciated, and loved.
I went from having just a handful of customers to serving corporations and organizations such as Amazon, Home Depot, ASU, and many others. I also provide surprise deliveries to ASU students for families who can’t physically be there to celebrate their loved ones on special occasions. Being able to bring a little piece of home, love, and happiness to someone who is far away means so much to me.
What sets Mommie Cakes apart from other bakeries is me.
I am different. I use my creativity in every order. I don’t believe in putting limits on what I can create. I listen to my customers, bring their ideas to life, and put my heart into every detail. Whether it’s a signature cake, a custom dessert, a corporate order, or something completely unique — I will find a way to make it happen.
Because this isn’t just a business to me.
This is my passion.
I genuinely love making people happy. There is nothing like seeing someone’s face light up when they see something I created with my own hands. That feeling is what keeps me going.
One of the things I am most proud of isn’t just how far Mommie Cakes has come — it’s how far I have come as a business owner and as a woman.
Nobody taught me the ropes. I had to figure things out on my own. I learned through life experiences, mistakes, challenges, victories, and countless late nights. I am still learning every single day.
Every morning, I wake up determined to be better than I was yesterday.
And through this journey, I am teaching my five children the same thing: never give up on your dreams. Work hard. Believe in yourself. Be grateful for what you have, and never be afraid to start small.
Because I am living proof that a small beginning can grow into something beautiful when you refuse to give up.
To all of my new clients, longtime customers, supporters, and new followers — thank you. Thank you for believing in me, supporting my dreams, ordering from my business, sharing my work, and allowing me to be part of your special moments.
I am so grateful that you are here to experience this journey with me.
This is more than just the story of Mommie Cakes.
This is my story. My passion. My purpose. My legacy.
And I’m just getting started. ❤️🍰
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building Mommie Cakes while being a mother of five has been one of the hardest — but most rewarding — journeys of my life.
There were so many moments when I had to choose between being tired and giving up, or pushing through because I knew I had five little people watching me. Being a mom while trying to build a business from the ground up isn’t easy. There were late nights, early mornings, financial struggles, moments of doubt, and times when I honestly wondered if I was doing enough.
I didn’t have anyone teaching me how to run a business. I had to teach myself everything.
I had to learn how to price my products, manage customers, market my business, handle finances, create designs, understand the business side of baking, and figure out how to keep going when things didn’t go as planned. There wasn’t a blueprint or someone standing beside me showing me what to do.
I learned through experience. I learned through mistakes. I learned through failure. And most importantly, I learned through perseverance.
There were times when life got difficult and I had every reason to put my dreams on hold. But then I would look at my children and remind myself why I started.
I want my children to see that your circumstances don’t have to determine your future.
I want them to know that it’s okay to start small. It’s okay to struggle. It’s okay to make mistakes. What’s important is that you don’t give up on yourself.
Being a mother has actually made me a stronger business owner. My children have been one of my biggest motivations. Every order I complete, every customer I make happy, and every milestone Mommie Cakes reaches reminds me that I’m not just building a business — I’m building a legacy my children can see with their own eyes.
They’ve watched me work when I was tired. They’ve watched me figure things out when I didn’t have the answers. They’ve watched me keep going when things weren’t easy.
And that’s the lesson I want to leave with them:
Never give up on your dreams just because the road is hard.
The road hasn’t been smooth, but every bump, every setback, every sleepless night, and every challenge has shaped me into the woman and business owner I am today.
I may not have had someone to teach me the ropes, but I became my own teacher.
And every day, I’m still learning, still growing, and still becoming better than I was yesterday.
Mommie Cakes isn’t just something I built. It’s something I fought for. It’s something I built with love, sacrifice, faith, and determination — and I couldn’t be more proud of that. ❤️🍰
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Mommie Cakes is a family-owned dessert brand built on creativity, love, and making people feel special. I specialize in custom cakes, specialty desserts, sweet treats, corporate orders, and surprise deliveries designed for birthdays, celebrations, events, and those moments when you want someone to feel loved from a distance.
What makes Mommie Cakes different is that I don’t believe in ordinary. I love taking a customer’s idea and turning it into something completely personal and memorable. I’m known for creating unique desserts and putting just as much effort into the experience as I do the product.
What I’m most proud of is how much the brand has grown while still keeping that personal touch. Mommie Cakes has had the opportunity to serve individuals, families, students, and major organizations, while continuing to create the one-of-a-kind desserts my customers love.
I want readers to know that when you support Mommie Cakes, you’re supporting a mother who built her business from the ground up, taught herself everything she knows, and turned her passion for baking into a growing brand.
For me, it’s never just about making a cake.
It’s about creating something that makes people smile, creates memories, and gives them a reason to celebrate. ❤️🍰
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout my journey is never give up on yourself, even when you can’t see the finish line.
There were many times when I didn’t have the answers, didn’t have anyone to guide me, and had to figure things out on my own. Being a mother of five while building a business taught me that sometimes you have to keep going even when you’re tired, scared, or unsure of what’s next.
I’ve learned that growth doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from every mistake, every setback, every difficult season, and every time you choose to get back up.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you start. You just have to believe in yourself enough to take the first step.
I want my children to see that lesson through me. I want them to know that no matter how hard life gets, you should never stop believing in your dreams.
If you keep showing up, keep learning, and refuse to quit, you can turn something that started as a dream into something real. ❤️
