Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Stone.
Hi Breanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Honestly it all started with an oil change of all things! I waited way too long to get mine done and ended up needing a whole new engine. Totally my fault, but it got me thinking there should really be an app where I could just put in my last oil change and get reminded before the next one was due, and that idea would NOT leave me alone. The problem was I had zero coding background, and I was working full time as a digital account manager and had just finished my degree, so honestly the idea of building a real app felt impossible. But I taught myself to code anyway, and after months of googling and hundreds of error messages and more than a few panic attacks (shoutout Reddit!), I finally launched Get Adulting on the App Store in April 2025 for just $2.99 a year. Growth was slow at first and I was honestly fine with that because I built it for ME and it was already making my own life so much easier, but then a TikTok creator I’ve never even met made a review that got 228,000 views and my downloads jumped from a few hundred to thousands in like two weeks. We’re now over 55,000 downloads and I still can’t wrap my head around it! The one that really got me though was this past December when Apple featured Get Adulting as their #1 Best New App. I literally cried. I launched on Android in February. Then in April I actually left my job to do this full time, and I’ve even gotten to collaborate with WVU’s Honors College to give their graduating seniors lifetime access. It’s honestly been so surreal, and I’m just really grateful people needed this thing as much as I did!!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly no, it has definitely NOT been a smooth road! The one that still makes me laugh is when I first tried to add custom colors. The app originally launched in just purple like the logo but I really wanted people to be able to make it their own, so I decided to build in the ability to change the app color. It completely broke the app. Hundreds of error messages in Xcode. It took forever and more than a few meltdowns to finally get it working, but it was sooooo worth it. I kept building on customization and now it’s one of my favorite parts of the app! Since adding custom colors, I’ve added custom background colors (including gradients), custom fonts, falling themes and string lights, and more!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Get Adulting is an all-in-one life skills app for adults, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. I’m a solo, woman-owned indie developer, and I built the entire thing myself!
At its core, Get Adulting helps you manage all the parts of adulthood that nobody ever actually teaches you, all in one place. You can track your health (doctor appointments, prescriptions, blood pressure, blood sugar, and more), stay on top of car maintenance in My Garage (oil changes, registration renewals, tire rotations, the works), keep up with your bills and paychecks without ever connecting a bank account, manage pet care, and take care of your mental health with journaling, breathing exercises, daily affirmations, focus timers, and digital fidgets. And on top of all of it, there’s built-in education in every single section, so you’re not just tracking things, you’re actually learning HOW to do them (like how often to change your oil, or what those scary warning lights on your dash actually mean)!
What really sets Get Adulting apart is what it DOESN’T do. No AI, no ads, and no tracking ever in the app! All of your data is stored locally on your own device, so nothing you put in ever leaves your phone or gets sold/tracked. And it’s just $2.99 a year (or a one-time $14.99 if you hate subscriptions) with every single feature unlocked, because I refuse to lock basic life tools behind a $10 a month paywall the way so many apps do. I also built it specifically with neurodivergent people in mind, so it’s genuinely ADHD-friendly and made for anyone who struggles with executive dysfunction, routines, or just constantly feeling behind!
Brand wise, I’m most proud that Apple featured Get Adulting as their #1 Best New App, and that it’s now actually used and recommended by real mental health organizations and even university programs like WVU’s Honors College! For a little passion project I built in my spare time, that means the world. At the end of the day, adulting is hard when no one teaches you how, and I just want people to know there’s finally an affordable, private, all-in-one app made to genuinely help!!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Honestly I do feel really lucky! But I think a lot of that came from just showing up and doing the work even on the days it felt impossible. I’m a big believer in staying positive and trying to find the good in things, even when they don’t go the way I planned. So when good stuff happens with the app, yeah it feels lucky, but I also know I kept putting one foot in front of the other with a hopeful outlook the whole time, and I really do think that mindset is a big part of why those moments happened at all. I try not to dwell on the setbacks and instead look at what they might be pointing me toward because some of the best things in my life have come out of moments that felt like the complete opposite of lucky at the time. At the end of the day I just feel really grateful!!
