Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Yang.
Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Cloud House was born from both my professional background and my personal journey as a mother. I am a pharmacist practicing in Arizona and earned a degree in Public Health Sciences with a minor in Educational Studies from UC Irvine. Throughout my career, I have developed a deep appreciation for child development, health, and the importance of creating environments where children can thrive. As a parent of two young children, I also experienced firsthand the challenges many families face in finding safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate places for children to play.
Living in Arizona, I recognized a particular need for high quality indoor play spaces where families could gather throughout the year. During the long summer months, outdoor play is often limited by extreme temperatures, yet young children still need opportunities to move, explore, socialize, and learn through play. I wanted to create a space that offered more than entertainment. I envisioned a place where play could be purposeful, enriching, and meaningful for both children and their caregivers.
That vision became Cloud House. Designed for children from birth to age seven, Cloud House combines imaginative play, sensory exploration, movement, and early learning opportunities within a safe and welcoming environment. Every aspect of the space was intentionally selected, from Montessori inspired materials and themed learning stations to our Hinoki cypress sensory pit and indoor play structures. My goal was to create a place that feels like an extension of home, comfortable, nurturing, and filled with opportunities for wonder and discovery.
One aspect that makes Cloud House especially unique is our focus on introducing young children to STEAM concepts in a way that feels natural, playful, and age appropriate. I strongly believe that curiosity is the foundation of learning. Through hands on sensory activities, simple science experiments, building challenges, nature exploration, and themed learning invitations, children are introduced to early concepts in science, technology, engineering, art, and math without ever feeling like they are in a classroom. For toddlers, learning happens best through play, so our activities are designed to encourage questioning, exploring, and discovering in ways that are exciting and developmentally appropriate.
We also offer rotating weekly themes that keep each visit fresh and engaging. One week children may explore the wonders of the ocean, while another week may focus on insects, outer space, dinosaurs, transportation, fizzy science experiments, or learning about the human body, such as how our lungs work in a simple and playful way. These changing themes help spark curiosity, encourage hands on discovery, and give children the opportunity to connect learning with real world ideas in a way that feels fun and meaningful.
Today, seeing children take their first steps, make new friends, gain confidence, and engage in joyful learning has been incredibly rewarding. Equally meaningful is watching parents and caregivers connect with one another and create lasting memories with their children. Cloud House has grown into more than an indoor playground. It has become a community centered space where families can learn, play, and grow together. That sense of connection and belonging is exactly what I hoped to create when I first envisioned Cloud House, and it continues to inspire me every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to building Cloud House has been deeply meaningful, but it has certainly not been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, especially in the early childhood space, there were many layers of learning, adapting, and problem solving along the way.
One of the earliest challenges was simply bringing the vision to life in a way that balanced developmental intention with real world operations. Designing a space that is both engaging for children and practical for daily use required constant refinement. Every material, layout decision, and activity station had to be evaluated not only for its educational value but also for safety, durability, and cleanliness standards that families could trust.
Another ongoing challenge has been operating in a highly dynamic environment where children’s needs vary widely by age and developmental stage. Creating a space that safely accommodates infants, toddlers, and older siblings at the same time requires continuous adjustment. We have had to be very intentional about refining our play zones, supervision flow, and safety protocols to ensure that every child can explore freely while still remaining protected and supported.
Like many businesses, we have also experienced the realities of building systems from the ground up. Establishing consistent operational procedures, training a team that reflects our values, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest experience required time, patience, and a willingness to constantly improve. We view feedback not as criticism, but as an important part of growth, and we continue to evolve our policies and processes to better serve families.
There were also emotional challenges that come with entrepreneurship. As a mother and a pharmacist, balancing professional responsibilities, family life, and the demands of building a business has required a great deal of resilience and intention. There were moments where decisions had to be made quickly, where uncertainty was present, and where every step forward required both trust in the vision and commitment to the community we serve.
At the same time, these challenges have shaped Cloud House into what it is today. They have pushed us to prioritize safety, strengthen our cleaning and operational standards, and remain closely connected to the families we serve. Every obstacle has reinforced our mission to create a space that is not only joyful and engaging for children, but also reliable, thoughtful, and responsive to the needs of parents.
Looking back, the road has been full of learning experiences that have ultimately strengthened both the space and our purpose. Cloud House continues to grow through that process, and we remain committed to improving, listening, and building something that truly serves our community in the best possible way.
We’ve been impressed with Cloud House for Babies and Toddlers , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cloud House for Babies and Toddlers is an indoor play and early learning space located in Arizona designed specifically for children from birth to age seven, with a strong focus on toddlers and early childhood development. At its core, Cloud House was created to meet a very real need for families, especially in Arizona where extreme heat can make outdoor play limited for much of the year, for a safe, clean, and thoughtfully designed environment where young children can move, explore, and learn through play.
What sets Cloud House apart is its intentional blend of play and early learning. We are not only an indoor playground but a space where developmentally meaningful experiences are embedded into every detail. Our environment includes Montessori inspired materials, sensory based play areas, a Hinoki cypress sensory pit, movement focused play structures, and immersive themed learning stations. These elements are carefully curated to support early cognitive, motor, and social development while still allowing children the freedom to explore at their own pace.
One of the most defining aspects of our program is our focus on early STEAM exposure in a way that feels natural and joyful for young children. We introduce science, technology, engineering, art, and math concepts through hands on play, sensory exploration, building activities, and simple experiments that encourage curiosity. Children may explore concepts like motion, water play, cause and effect, simple physics, or even early anatomy in very age appropriate and playful ways. Learning is never forced. It is discovered through experience.
We are also known for our rotating weekly themes, which keep the experience fresh for returning families. Each week brings a new focus such as ocean exploration, insects, outer space, dinosaurs, transportation, community helpers, seasonal celebrations, fizzy science experiments, or introductions to the human body like learning about lungs in a simple and engaging way. These changing themes allow children to continuously engage with new ideas while building excitement for learning through play.
Safety, cleanliness, and consistency are central to everything we do. We maintain detailed cleaning protocols throughout the day, continuously refine our operational systems, and train our team to uphold high standards while still creating a warm and welcoming environment. From designated hygiene practices for shared materials to structured safety guidelines that are gently reinforced, every detail is designed with families’ peace of mind in mind. We also prioritize listening to guest feedback and continuously improving our policies and procedures so the space evolves with the needs of the community.
What also truly distinguishes Cloud House is the scale and feel of the environment. It is intentionally designed to feel intimate enough for parents to stay closely connected to their children while still offering rich, varied play opportunities across different developmental stages. Families with multiple children find it especially welcoming because siblings of different ages can safely engage in play side by side.
At the heart of our brand is a commitment to creating a place that feels like an extension of home, warm, welcoming, and community centered. We are most proud of the relationships that have grown within our space, the trust families place in us, and the moments of growth we witness every day, from first steps and new friendships to moments of confidence and discovery.
Ultimately, Cloud House is about more than play. It is about building a foundation for lifelong curiosity, supporting families during some of the most important early years, and creating a space where children are free to wonder, explore, and thrive while parents feel supported, connected, and at ease.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has played a quiet but deeply shaping role in my journey, both in my personal life and in building Cloud House. I have always viewed luck less as chance and more as a rare alignment of timing, responsibility, and perspective that you are fortunate enough to recognize while you are in it.
One of the most defining moments of luck in my life was becoming a mother right at the time I was beginning to imagine what an indoor space for young children could be. It is something I often reflect on with gratitude, because it allowed me to build Cloud House not just as a business owner, but as a parent actively living the very experience I was designing for. I was not imagining families from the outside looking in. I was living it every day. I understood the exhaustion, the desire for safe spaces, the search for meaningful play, and the need for a place where children can simply be children. That perspective shaped everything in a way I could never have achieved otherwise.
There were also moments along the way that felt uncertain or challenging at the time, but later revealed themselves as essential turning points. Building something from the ground up required learning systems, refining operations, and constantly adjusting with care and intention. Those experiences shaped our standards in a real way, especially around cleanliness, safety, and the emotional experience of families walking through our doors. What once felt like pressure eventually became structure, and structure became the foundation of trust.
We have also been incredibly fortunate in a way that still feels very personal. Some of our very first families, who joined us on day one more than two and a half years ago, are still part of our community today. A few are now even returning with their second children. That continuity is something I do not take lightly. It is not just loyalty. It feels like shared history, like growing up alongside a community that chose to believe in something early and stayed with it as it evolved.
Luck has also shown up in a quieter, more personal form through balance. I have been fortunate to move between roles that all feel deeply meaningful to me, being a pharmacist with flexibility, a mother, a business owner, a wife, and a daughter. There is a kind of invisible coordination required to hold all of those identities at once, and I do not take for granted the ability to do so while building something that serves other families.
If I had to define luck in my story, it would not be about isolated moments of success. It would be about being placed in the middle of experiences that gave me the exact lens I needed at the exact time I needed it, and then having the courage to build something from that clarity.
