Hidden Gems: Meet DiAna Martinez of Four Seasons Flowers & Gifts

Today we’d like to introduce you to DiAna Martinez.

Hi DiAna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Oh gosh, where do I even start! My love for flowers goes way back — my grandmother, Margaret, had this incredible way with plants and flowers, and as a little girl I was right there by her in her plant garden. That never left me.

Life took me into real estate, and honestly? I thrived. I’m a Phoenix girl through and through — I know these neighborhoods, these families. I’ve been serving this community for over ten years and I am still very much active. That’s not going anywhere — it’s just who I am. I love the business part of it.

But there was a season in my life where I was walking through some really deep grief, and I needed something to hold onto. I went back to what my grandmother planted in me — literally. I enrolled in floristry school right here in Phoenix, and it saved me. It became my therapy, my joy, my reset button.

And then it became so much more. I realized — this is how I want to serve people. Gifting is my love language, and flowers just say everything words sometimes can’t.

I started designing part-time at Four Seasons while still working in real estate, and girl — I was in my element. Working there part time, the previous owner was retiring and asked if was interested in buying the business. On July 1st, 2025 I became the owner, and honestly it still gives me chills saying that. Same amazing team, same soul of the shop — just with a whole lot of new energy and big dreams behind it.

AZ raised me. This is me giving that love back — with flowers, with homes, with giving hands.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Absolutely not — and I’ll be the first to say it!

It has been a full year and I won’t sugarcoat it, it has been a lot. First thing we did was remodel the shop because I wanted it to feel more warm and inviting the moment you walk in. That alone was a whole journey!

And then there was the learning curve — I came from real estate, so stepping into retail and the service industry was a whole new world for me. Same heart, completely different language. I had to really shift my mindset and be okay with not knowing everything right away. Humbling? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

One of the things I navigated carefully was coming in as a younger owner to a team that has been here for over ten years. I have so much respect for them — they are the backbone of this shop. So it was really important to me to lead with humility, earn their trust, and find that balance between honoring what they built and bringing in my fresh vision.

And oh my gosh — the ideas! That might honestly be my biggest struggle. I have SO much inspiration for this shop and the hardest thing is not doing it all at once! I have to remind myself — *pace yourself, DiAna.*

But I am getting there. Little by little, things are clicking. I’ve been bringing on additional team members who align with my vision and that has made such a difference. The energy is shifting and I can feel it. We are just getting started!

We’ve been impressed with Four Seasons Flowers & Gifts, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Four Seasons Flowers and Gifts is so much more than a flower shop. We are a full service floral experience rooted right here in Glendale, and there is nothing like fresh flowers designed with real intention — not the grocery store bunch!

We do it all — everyday arrangements, weddings, events, corporate accounts, and funeral work. That last one is especially close to my heart. Being there for families during some of their hardest moments is a privilege I don’t take lightly.

Our mission is really the heartbeat of everything we do — flowers belong in every milestone. The celebrations and the hard days. We want to be there for all of it.

We are also expanding our gift offerings because gifting is just in my DNA. I want Four Seasons to be the place this community reaches for whenever they want to show up for someone they love.

And we have something really special coming before the end of the year — a nonprofit that is going to mean so much to this community. I can’t say too much just yet, but trust me — it’s going to be beautiful. Stay tuned!

What makes you happy?
Oh this question makes me smile because the list is LONG!

At the core of everything — I am a people person. I genuinely love hearing people’s stories, their why, what they are walking through. Whether I am helping someone find a home or designing an arrangement for a moment in their life, that human connection is everything to me.

But what makes me the happiest right now? Honestly — seeing my kids thrive. I am a young widow, and there was a season where life felt really dark for the three of us. Rediscovering myself while raising my kids solo and trying to become a stronger woman, Mom and business owner — that was no small thing. But we made a choice. We were not going to give up on each other. And watching them smile now, seeing where we all are compared to where we were just a few years ago — that solidifies everything for me. Perseverance is real and what you can build on the other side of grief is remarkable.

I think that journey is also what makes me so driven to help others. My kids and I are all deeply empathetic people and that flows into everything I do — the shop, the nonprofit we are building, the way I show up for my customers and my community.

And then there is the joy — my boyfriend and his incredible support, my family and friends who never let me fall, l LOVE music(start my day and end with it), discovering new restaurants, adventures, vacations, making memories. I am very creative, I am super spontaneous and I love living fully.

Life is too short not to. We learned that the hard way — and now we choose joy and helping others discover theirs.
