Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Tiscareño.
Hi Melissa , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My photography journey began in the mountains of Colorado where I would spend most of my time hiking and exploring new places. This allowed me to capture beautiful landscapes with my camera. What started as a love for capturing nature quickly grew into a passion for documenting the people who experience life’s most meaningful moments.
As my skills and confidence grew, I transitioned from photographing landscapes to capturing families, portraits, and eventually weddings. Along the way, photography has given me the opportunity to meet incredible people, connect with families from different states/countries, and travel to places I may have never discovered otherwise. Every session and every wedding has added to my experience, helping me grow both creatively and professionally.
Today, I specialize in lifestyle family photography, portraits, and small intimate weddings. Focusing on authentic connections and genuine moments that tell each client’s unique story.
Beyond photography, I am a busy momma of two amazing kiddos who remind me of how quickly life changes and how important it is to preserve memories. I also maintain a full time career in Mental Health which allows me to pursue photography as both a creative passion and a part time business.
Photography has become so much more than simply taking pictures. It has allowed me to explore, connect, grow, and tell stories that families will cherish for generations. I am blessed for every individual who trusts me to capture a piece of their story and I look forward to continuing this journey for years to come.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the most valuable lessons photography has taught me is how to work with people from all different backgrounds, personalities, and comfort levels. Over the years, I have photographed individuals and families who may feel nervous in front of the camera or struggle with confidence and self-image. I understand that being photographed can feel vulnerable and my goal is always to create a welcoming, positive experience where clients feel comfortable being themselves.
I take the time to guide clients through flattering poses, provide encouragement throughout the session, and overall create an environment filled with positive energy. Seeing a client fall in love with their photos and gain confidence from the experience is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Photography is more than documenting a moment, it is creating art that tells a story and preserves a feeling. Years from now, I want my clients to look at their images and remember exactly what the season of life felt like: the laughter, the love, the excitement, and the connection they shared. As a bilingual photographer, I am passionate about serving diverse families and creating an inclusive experience where everyone feels welcomed. Building relationships with my clients that turns into friendships is one of my favorite parts of this work. For me, photography is about creating images that evoke emotion long after the moment has passed. It is truly an honor to create artwork that my families will treasure for generations to come.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
As a photographer, I’ve learned that growth often comes from taking risks, even when they feel uncomfortable. One of the biggest risks I took was traveling out of the country on my own to photograph a very special event. It was intimidating and pushed me far outside of my comfort zone, but Laso opened the door to incredible opportunities. Through that experience, I built professional connections, developed meaningful client relationships that grew into genuine friendships, and earned the trust needed to capture such important memories.
Another risk was stepping into the wedding industry. Despite those fears of wedding photography, I challenged myself to say yes, learn, and grow in my art. Over the years, I’ve photographed numerous weddings, gained confidence in my abilities, and discovered the some of the most rewarding experiences happen when we take a chance on ourselves.
