Hi Teresa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have over 20 years experience as a nurse, 10 of those practicing as a nurse practitioner (NP). I started my NP career working for a large hospital corporation in the Valley in Urgent Care. During the Covid pandemic I was very frustrated – feeling that I could not help patients heal from or prevent illness due to strict treatment limitations. Around that same time I developed severe fatigue. After multiple appointments with my Primary Care Provider, with labs/testing, and referrals to specialists I was told I was just depressed. Pharmaceuticals were recommended, but only made me feel worse. Encouraged by my mother, I attended a medical conference in Dallas, TX held by the FLCCC and was introduced to many natural and functional medicine providers. The concept of identifying and treating the root cause of illness was exactly what I was looking for. Upon returning to Phoenix I enrolled in an online functional medicine class.
After studying functional medicine – I decided to to root cause testing on myself and discovered that I had black mold illness and hypothyroidism. Once I addressed the root cause of my symptoms my fatigue went away and my thyroid function improved significantly.
That experience changed the course of my career. Personally experiencing the gaps in conventional medicine, I now have a passion for getting down to what is causing patient’s symptoms. I am committed to offering my patients the absolute best care that they deserve and find great purpose in helping people achieve true healing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having conventional training – it’s been a big learning curve, but I have a thirst for learning more and find that I continue to learn new things every day.
