Exploring Life & Business with Kristin Bjorge of The SELF Styled

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Bjorge.

Kristin Bjorge

Hi Kristin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As an Image Consultant and Style Strategist, I help people and brands show up with clarity and impact. My story came full circle two years ago when I moved back to Phoenix, where it all began.

I spent the last two decades in Los Angeles curating characters, campaigns, and visuals across entertainment, advertising, and media. I built my career as a Costume Designer and Wardrobe Stylist for television, streaming, commercials, film, branded content, music videos, and more. It’s given me the chance to work with an incredible range of talent: chefs, athletes, magicians, rock stars, and over 70 leading brands. It’s been exciting and intense, but one of my favorite parts has been collaborating with some of the most innovative minds in the business through production teams, agencies, casting, talent, and artists.

Honestly, I’ve really been doing this my whole life… dressing people, dressing up, immersing in transformation and storytelling. As a kid, I spent hours in my mom’s closet sewing on her old Singer, styling vintage outfits, and putting on home recitals with my sister. Later, I was the teen roaming the mall endlessly, face buried in fashion magazines, staging photoshoots with my friends. I was always creating: acting, dancing, painting, playing instruments. I even stepped into the roles of Peter Pan and my middle school mascot, Marty Mustang.

I studied interdisciplinary art in college at ASU, focusing on photography and graphic design with a marketing emphasis. After graduating, my path wound through an ad agency, a lifestyle magazine, and production work with commercial photographers. When I expressed interest in wardrobe after working on set with a stylist, my photographer mentor told me I had two options — New York or Los Angeles — so I packed my car and headed West. That leap led me into a very colorful chapter of life in LA.

My fascination has always been identity. The shiny characters that shaped my world growing up were the ones I saw in film and pop culture: iconic personalities that made style feel larger than life. The glossy, high-value production music videos that were huge in the late nineties fueled my imagination: Britney Spears, N’Sync, J-Lo, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes. David LaChapelle’s surreal high-fashion world was candy to my eyes. I’ve always been a big people-watcher and lover of aesthetics. I can’t help but tap into the psychology of someone’s style, why they’re drawn to certain things and what that says about how they navigate life.

My approach to personal style is simple: connect how you show up with the vision you have for your life. When you embody that energy daily, everything shifts. I’ve seen again and again that personal transformation doesn’t stop with the individual — expansion ripples outward, shaping the spaces and people around them. My spiritual journey has greatly influenced my perspective and how I work with clients to integrate mindset and energetic alignment techniques.

Today, I split my time between personal clients who want deeper image consulting and style strategy; companies and agencies who want to elevate their talent for on-camera presence, brand representation, and public-facing roles; and creative productions: commercial shoots, fashion projects, and visual e-commerce campaigns. It’s a mix I love, and it reflects the versatility of my background.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
(laughs) Smooth? Absolutely not. I don’t think anyone in entertainment or fashion would ever say that. When I moved to LA, I knew two people and took a job at a sports bar just to bring in some cash and expand my network. From there, I hustled my way into my first TV job in the art department — making specialty props, dabbling in costuming, and saying yes to anything I could possibly figure out.

One gig led to another, I learned the ropes, and I started getting referrals. Through those connections and opportunities, I moved up the industry ladder and eventually branched into fashion styling to broaden my experience. That blend of roles ultimately led me to join the Costume Designers Guild (IATSE 892) alongside some of the artists responsible for the most iconic looks in entertainment history.

But it certainly wasn’t easy. Working in production means constantly stepping into new environments, meeting new teams, and adapting at a moment’s notice. You have to be flexible, insanely detail-oriented, and a clear communicator to survive — to build trust quickly and collaborate toward a shared vision. It’s fast-paced and unpredictable.

Challenging? Definitely.
Worth it? Completely. I wouldn’t trade any part of that journey.

After leaving the whirlwind of Hollywood, I’ve intentionally pivoted my skill set toward pathways that feel more wellness-aligned for both myself and my clients. Moving deeper into image consulting has been a real blessing because it allows me to support people in their own transformation and transition, which feels like a natural extension of everything I’ve learned along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of The SELF Styled. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Self Styled is my image and brand consulting practice — a space where style, expression, and presence come together with intention. I take a holistic approach because the work goes far beyond clothing.

You might be an entrepreneur, a founder, a creative, a content maker, or anyone who wants to feel more confident and aligned. Whether we’re collaborating in person or virtually, the intention is the same: to refine your identity and translate it into a visual expression that feels authentic.

I offer different entry points depending on your personal or professional needs, from focused sessions to full transformation packages. Every service has been shaped by years of supporting clients from all walks of life.

A Style Strategy Session is a great place to start virtually. It gives us space to connect, explore your expression, and bring clarity to your aesthetic direction.

The Style Synthesis package is the in-person transformation experience and includes closet curation, one-on-one shopping, color analysis, and personalized insight into fit, body shape, and fabric choices.

The Consult & Create experience is designed for people who need an expert eye on their public-facing identity to audit their social presence, refine their visual messaging, and strategize a cohesive look and feel they can grow with.

What sets my work apart is my background and my approach. I have extensive experience across industries, and I understand identity as a multidimensional language — energy, psychology, and aesthetics working together. This is not a makeover. It’s not about trends or status. It’s about bridging where you are now with where you want to be.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that this work is deeply personal and deeply human. In an era where so much is automated or AI-generated, my intention is to truly see people: to hold space, to listen, and to reflect back the version of themselves they’re trying to step into. When someone walks away with a clearer sense of who they are and how they want to be seen, I’ve done my job.

I’m excited about expanding The Self Styled into more partnerships, particularly in spaces where presence and image play a meaningful role in trust, confidence, and client experience. I’ve begun working with companies and organizations that support people through pivotal moments — including wellness and weight-loss businesses, influencer and UGC talent teams, literary and keynote representation, real estate and finance firms, and wedding planning professionals. These collaborations strengthen their internal operations and provide an added resource for the clients they serve.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I feel that not taking risks is scarier than taking them. I’ve taken plenty of leaps of faith in my life, and some have landed me on cushier paths than others. But without risk, there’s usually less reward and certainly less growth.

If you can think of life as an experiment, everything becomes a lot more fun and a little less intimidating. Each step teaches you something, even if it doesn’t go exactly the way you imagined. To me, risk is less about recklessness and more about self-trust. It’s choosing to follow the pull before you have all the answers.
