Rising Stars: Meet Eliane (aka Ellie) Mckenzie of Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eliane (aka Ellie) Mckenzie

Hi Eliane (aka Ellie), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began over 17 years ago in the construction industry, where I discovered my passion for design and customer relations. I started in roles that allowed me to develop a strong foundation in customer service, sales, and management, always gravitating toward opportunities where I could combine creativity with problem-solving. It’s been an incredible journey of growth, resilience, and continuous learning, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced significant mental health challenges and often felt like a minority—being a dark-skinned woman and a foreigner in a male-dominated industry. There were moments when I struggled to feel like I truly belonged, but those experiences taught me resilience and the power of perseverance.
Instead of letting those challenges hold me back, I used them as motivation to work harder, adapt, and grow. They’ve shaped me into a stronger professional and a more empathetic leader. I’ve learned to value my unique perspective and to stay focused on the future, no matter the obstacles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently the General Sales Manager at Bolder Image Stone in Phoenix, Arizona. This role enables me to lead a talented team, drive growth, and maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction. We supply granite, quartz, and quartzite. I bring expertise and passion to every project, ensuring clients get the best in both materials and design.
Over time, I specialized in kitchen and bath design, sales, leadership, and business development skills. Working closely with clients to transform their spaces helped my career and deepened my appreciation in this field. My multilingual abilities in Portuguese, English, and Spanish have been instrumental in connecting with a diverse clientele and building lasting relationships.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect with clients on a personal level, understanding their unique vision and delivering spaces that truly reflect them. I’m also proud of my journey. Overcoming challenges like PTSD has shaped me into someone who values authenticity, resilience, and spreading good vibes. For me, it’s about more than sales and design; it’s about making a lasting impact on both homes and hearts.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The COVID-19 crisis taught me the value of adaptability and resilience. Working throughout the pandemic, I noticed how many people took the opportunity to remodel their homes as they spent more time indoors. This not only allowed me to grow professionally but also provided an opportunity to earn additional income.
One of the most rewarding lessons I learned was how fortunate I was to support my family financially when they were struggling due to the shutdowns. It was a humbling reminder of the importance of gratitude, hard work, and being there for your loved ones during tough times.
