Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Featherstone.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been drawn to art, but for a long time, it was something I did on the side while pursuing a career in real estate. Painting started as a way to unwind after long days, a way to quiet my mind and connect with something deeper. Over time, I realized painting wasn’t just a stress release—it was something I truly loved and needed in my life.
I began with abstracts, experimenting with techniques that resonated with me. My process involves hand-pouring acrylics, which gives my work its signature look, combined with meticulous detailing. Over time, I’ve developed a style that feels both personal and distinctive, inspired by the natural world and themes of connection and resilience.
Getting here hasn’t been a straight line. It took persistence, trial and error, the support of those who believed in me, and a lot of faith in myself. Interestingly, the skills I honed as a realtor—connecting with people and understanding their needs—have helped me immensely as an artist. It’s been a journey of rediscovering myself and sharing that journey with others through my work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, but I think that’s true for most worthwhile pursuits. One of the biggest challenges was shifting from seeing art as a personal passion to making it my profession. There’s a lot to learn about running a creative business, from marketing to building connections with collectors, and that learning curve can be steep.
Another struggle was self-doubt—wondering if my work would resonate with others or if I was taking too big a leap. But each obstacle has taught me something valuable, whether it’s patience, resilience, or the importance of staying true to my vision. Every challenge along the way has shaped me into the artist and person I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in hand-poured acrylic painting, using fluid techniques to create textures and depth that feel alive, combined with intricate detailing to bring structure and definition to shape, subject matter, and story. My art draws inspiration from nature, exploring themes like connection, resilience, and the beauty of impermanence.
I’m most proud of the time and dedication I invest in each piece. For example, my painting Beyond Devil’s Bridge took over 200 hours to complete. It’s not just about creating something visually striking; it’s about telling a story and inviting others to see the world through my eyes.
What sets my work apart is the technical precision of my process. I start by drawing my piece on a wood surface, taping it off, and cutting away the areas where I’ll pour the paint. After each layer dries, I peel the tape and repeat the process, layer by layer, until the piece is complete. Techniques like stippling and gold leafing add textures that give my pieces a distinct identity.
Ultimately, I want my art to resonate with people on a deeper level, sparking emotion and fostering a sense of connection. That’s what drives me every day.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I did have the opportunity to work as an assistant to three incredible artists, and that experience was invaluable. These mentors taught me so much about the craft, the business side of art, and the mindset needed to succeed. While I don’t want to make this about them, their influence shaped a lot of my approach, especially in terms of technique and understanding the art world on a deeper level.
Finding a mentor can be crucial, but it’s also about being open to learning from all sources—whether it’s a formal mentor, other artists, or even the community around you. For me, networking has been a mix of attending art shows, engaging with other artists online, and simply showing up and connecting with people who share a similar passion. I’ve found that building genuine relationships is key. It’s not always about what someone can do for you, but about creating meaningful exchanges where both parties grow.
