Check Out Pooh C’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pooh C

Hi Pooh, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story well where do we start, my name is Pooh, I am the co-owner and founder of Poohs Pot LLC which is a Black Owned, Home-Based bakery right here in Phoenix, AZ. If you asked me 8 years ago did I imagine owning a bakery? It would definitely be a YES! I’ve been inspired to bake since grade school but shockingly enough it did not come completely naturally. My original skill and talent was in food from a young age making everything from scratch. As everyone knows cooking and baking are two separate professions. Baking has always been my peace the place I could go to when the whole world was crashing and sometimes it made me crash, it’s definitely a science to get items exactly how you would like! But as the goat Michael Jordan said ‘ To learn to succeed, you must first learn to fail.’ And I did just that a few times but that’s how you gain experience, knowledge, and how to prevail in every scenario going forward! 8 years later I’m 25 years old and the first business owner in my family, the first one out of all my friends. Neither of my parents were college graduates, grew up in a single-mother household the oldest of my siblings, and most of all a minority, I was not supposed to persevere but I did. Not for myself but for every other child, young adult, or adult who felt like they did not have the option to become the person they were inspired to become.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With good comes bad, that’s the cycle of life. I wish I could say it’s all rainbows and sunshine but at times it is very far from that reality. I’ve been homeless, I’ve been let go, I’ve struggled mentally and physically. When you do something different sometimes the world does not know how to accept that change. Sometimes not even due to your control things are inevitable they’re challenging. My best advice to anyone is that you’re creating your own path and with that comes turns you may not have expected but with no challenge, there’s no work, with work comes gratitude and humbling experiences that are priceless.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That 8 years ago that I mentioned I was in high school right here in the valley. I told myself I’d try something I wanted to do and decided to have a bake sale. No one showed up. Definitely could’ve been a moment of discouragement but instead, I packed it all up and brought them to school the next day to try and sell them. Every time we fall we have the choice are we going to get back up or stay down. I chose to get back up.
